@Cstrl. I think you’re correct since the test is probably talking about pinging from the router and not Windows Operating System. I agree, I think it’s Ping IPV6 is the right answer.

The native VLAN is always untagged unless you enable tagging for it. By default it is VLAN 1 but that can be changed. Untagged frames received on trunk are assumed to be part of native VLAN.

Which NTP command configures the local device as an NTP reference clock source?
    A. ntp peer
    B. ntp broadcast
    C. ntp master
    D. ntp server

    Answer should be C

ntp server configures the local device as a client by referring to an address/name of an NTP server

whereas ntp master configures the local device as an ntp server an assigns its own local clock a stratum level; basically sets itself as a master clock, so other clients can use ntp server command to reference this source

    A. RFC 4193
    B. RFC 1519
    C. RFC 1518
    D. RFC 1918

    Answer is RFC 1519
    https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1519
This memo discusses strategies for address assignment of the existing
IP address space with a view to conserve the address space and stem
the explosive growth of routing tables in default-route-free routers.

Which statement about native VLAN traffic is true?
    A. Cisco Discovery Protocol traffic travels on the native VLAN by default
    B. Traffic on the native VLAN is tagged with 1 by default
    C. Control plane traffic is blocked on the native VLAN.
    D. The native VLAN is typically disabled for security reasons

Answer is A. Cisco Discovery Protocol traffic travels on the native VLAN by default

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/network-management/discovery-protocol-cdp/118736-technote-cdp-00.html

Note: On the router, the subinterface with the lowest VLAN/dot1q encapsulation is selected as the preferred subinterface to carry the CDP packets. On the switch, the CDP traffic is always preferred on the lowest VLAN configured. That is, VLAN 1 always, which cannot be deleted from the VLAN database. The CDP protocol behaves differently when the switch sends CDP as a tagged packet or untagged packet dependent upon the native VLAN configured on the trunk link.

  22. @C
    March 8th, 2017

No, the answer is not B. The answer is C. RFC 1518 implemented CIDR (Classless interdomain routing) which saved IPv4 public addresses.

  23. C
    March 8th, 2017

I don’t disagree with you, I’m just torn between 1518 and 1519 since 1518 specifies the CIDR allocation architecture, and 1519 specifies how it alleviates 32bit addressing depletion (strategy). That and they were both published in sept 1993 (same time)

These are not all of the questions that you’ll see on the exam. I’ve taken it twice, so some are missing but this is definitely 90% of the questions you’ll receive. If you have the fundamentals of switching and routing down, you’ll pass. The security simlet and the show running config simlet is exactly the same on the exam. EXCEPT the DHCP simlet has some different configurations. Know what each multiple choice answer means and you’ll be able to deduce the answer.

Quick question, the question “Which set of conditions comprises a successful ping attempt between two connected routers configured with IP addresses on the same subnet?” is on the document twice and has a different answer… one says C and one says E…
I think the answer is E.. can you verify?

    A. The destination host receives an echo reply from the source host within one second and the source host receives an echo request from the destination host.
    B. The destination host receives an echo request from the source host within one second.
    C. The destination host receives an echo reply from the source host within one second and the source host receives an echo reply from the destination host within two seconds.
    D. The destination host receives an echo request from the source host and the source host receives an echo request from the destination host within one second.

Which value is indicated by the next hop in a routing table?
    A. preference of the route source
    B. IP address of the remote router for forwarding the packets
    C. how the route was learned
    D. exit interface IP address for forwarding the packets

Answer is B officially but I am sure its D.

Explanation : next-hop_address This is the IP address of the next-hop router that will receive packets and
forward them to the remote network, which must signify a router interface that’s on a directly
connected network. You must be able to successfully ping the router interface before you can add the
route. Important note to self is that if you type in the wrong next-hop address or the interface to the
correct router is down, the static route will show up in the router’s configuration but not in the routing
    table.

exitinterface Used in place of the next-hop address if you want, and shows up as a directly
    connected route.

R1 router clock is synchronized with ISP router R2 is supposed to receive NTP updates from R1. But you observe that R2 clock is not synchronized with R1. What is the reason R2 is not receiving NTP updates from R1?

    I did Show Running-Config on R2 and R1.

The testdump I have said “IP address that is used in the NTP configuration on R2 is incorrect” but I didn’t find any NTP entry so I put “The NTP server command not configured on R2 router” _ dont know if this means Cisco has different variations of the Sim or not

    Part2 of the sim:
Why applications that are installed on PC’s in R2 LAN network 10.100.20.0/24 are unable to communicate with server1?
Answer: A standard ACL statement that is configured on R2 is blocking the traffic sourced from Server1 network.

    Part 3:
Users complain that they are unable to reach internet sites. You are troubleshooting internet connectivity problem at main office. Which statement correctly identifies the problem on Router R1?
Answer: NAT configurations on the interfaces are incorrectly configured

    Park 4:
Examine the DHCP configuration between R2 and R3; R2 is configured as the DHCP server and R3 as the client. What is the reason R3 is not receiving the IP address via DHCP?
Answer: DHCP is not enabled on the interface that is connected to R2.

    Everyone, please read this.

I’m really sick of these test dump sites that charges you $50 for wrong answers! They all say “Pass or money back” but if you read the fine print, that will never happen.

So, I have compiled my test dump with the user ANSWERS to make 1 big document. You will see a lot of repetitive questions and some that have different answers.. that’s because I couldnt find the definitive answer. All I can tell you is that I pass with a 900/1000 just by studying this file. This mean that I DO have some wrong answers.

I’m booked for an exam in few days but as far as I know OSPF is not a part of ICND1. Just RIPv2. Obviously i still need to know routing protocols AD but i assumed that’s about it. Did you get a lot of question (if any) about OSPF on your exams?

  52. Rob

@MuQ From what I remember, yes, maybe 3-4 questions about OSPF. 1) OSPF is link state protocol came up on all 3 of my tests. Need to know the Admin distance of static, EIGRP, IGRP, OSPF and RIP. I didnt get any drang and drop questions in all 3 of my tests… I got the same sim (the 1 router, 1 switch) on all 3 of my tests. The new questions came up quite a bit as well.

Q#125. Under which circumstance should a network administrator implement one-way NAT?
    A. when the network must route UDP traffic
    B. when traffic that originates outside the network must be routed to internal hosts
    C. when traffic that originates inside the network must be routed to internal hosts
    D. when the network has few public IP addresses and many private IP addresses require outside access

    CORRECT ANSWER: D

Q:127 Which statement describes the effect of this configuration?
A The VLAN 10 VTP configuration is displayed.
    B VLAN 10 spanning-tree output is displayed.
C The VLAN 10 configuration is saved when the router exits VLAN configuration mode.
D VLAN 10 is added to the VLAN database.

CORRECT ANSWER: D ( I have made sure by exercising this in packet tracer)

Q:128 Which statement about routing protocols is true?
    A. Link-state routing protocols choose a path by the number of hops to the destination.
    B. OSPF is a link-state routing protocol.
    C. Distance-vector routing protocols use the Shortest Path First algorithm.
    D. IS-IS is a distance-vector routing protocol.

CORRECT ANSWER: B (I am sure about the answer, You can learn about Link state protocols in Cisco site and many other websites as OSPF is a link state routing protocol)

If i found anymore wrong or doubtful answers then I’ll definitely share with you people.

Q:150 Which value is indicated by the next hop in a routing table?
    A. preference of the route source
    B. IP address of the remote router for forwarding the packets
    C. how the route was learned
    D. exit interface IP address for forwarding the packets

    CORRECT ANSWER: B

Explanation from official Odom cisco book is Routes for remote subnets typically list both an outgoing interface and next-hop router IP address. Routes for subnets that connect directly to the router list only the outgoing interface, because packets to these destinations do not need to be sent to another router.

@ Michael, I think the answer to question 125 is Explanation:
NAT operation is typically transparent to both the internal and external hosts. Typically the internal host is aware of the true IP address and TCP or UDP port of the external host. Typically the NAT device may function as the default gateway for the internal host. However the external host is only aware of the public IP address for the NAT device and the particular port being used to communicate on behalf of a specific internal host.
    NAT and TCP/UDP
“Pure NAT”, operating on IP alone, may or may not correctly parse protocols that are totally concerned with IP information, such as ICMP, depending on whether the payload is interpreted by a host on the “inside” or “outside” of translation. As soon as the protocol stack is traversed, even with such basic protocols as TCP and UDP, the protocols will break unless NAT takes action beyond the network layer. IP packets have a checksum in each packet header, which provides error detection only for the header. IP datagrams may become fragmented and it is necessary for a NAT to reassemble these fragments to allow correct recalculation of higher-level checksums and correct tracking of which packets belong to which connection. The major transport layer protocols, TCP and UDP, have a checksum that covers all the data they carry, as well as the TCP/UDP header, plus a “pseudo-header” that contains the source and destination IP addresses of the packet carrying the TCP/UDP header.
For an originating NAT to pass TCP or UDP successfully, it must recompute the TCP/UDP header checksum based on the translated IP addresses, not the original ones, and put that checksum into the TCP/UDP header of the first packet of the fragmented set of packets. The receiving NAT must recompute the IP checksum on every packet it passes to the destination host, and also recognize and recompute the TCP/UDP header using the retranslated addresses and pseudo-header. This is not a completely solved problem. One solution is for the receiving NAT to reassemble the entire segment and then recompute a checksum calculated across all packets.
The originating host may perform Maximum transmission unit (MTU) path discovery to determine the packet size that can be transmitted without fragmentation, and then set the don’t fragment (DF) bit in the appropriate packet header field. Of course, this is only a one-way solution, because the responding host can send packets of any size, which may be fragmented before reaching the NAT.

@ Anonymous Thanks buddy. After reading thoroughly the above explanation, I agree with the answer selected by @Rob. So the correct answer to Q 125 will remain Option B.

Q:154 Which dynamic routing protocol uses only the hop count to determine the best path to a destination?
    A. IGRP
    B. RIP
    C. EIGRP
    D. OSPF

    CORRECT ANSWER: B

Q:157 Which technology supports the stateless assignment of IPv6 addresses?
    A. DNS
    B. DHCPv6
    C. DHCP
    D. autoconfiguration

CORRECT ANSWER: D (The options are pretty ambiguous but I think that option D should be correct)

  70. Johannes Mbangu
    March 14th, 2017

question 154 is correct, explanation : The Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is one of the oldest distance-vector routing protocols which employ the hop count as a routing metric. RIP prevents routing loops by implementing limit on the number of hops allowed in a path from source to destination.

Question 157 is also correct: explanation: Stateless Auto Configuration is an important feature offered by the IPv6 protocol. It allows the various devices attached to an IPv6 network to connect to the Internet using the Stateless Auto Configuration without requiring any intermediate IP support in the form of a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. A DHCP server holds a pool of IP addresses that are dynamically assigned for a specified amount of time to the requesting node in a Local Area Network (LAN).

@Packet. Please review the questions as I suggested before.

Which MTU size can cause a baby giant error?
    A. 1500
    B. 9216
    C. 1600
    D. 1518

Ethernet frame size refers to the whole Ethernet frame, including the header and the trailer while MTU size refers only to Ethernet payload. Baby giant frames refer to Ethernet frame size up to 1600 bytes, and jumbo frame refers to Ethernet frame size up to 9216 bytes (according to this link: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-4000-series-switches/29805-175.html)

For example, standard Ethernet frame MTU is 1500 bytes. This does not include the Ethernet header and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) trailer, which is 18 bytes in length, to make the total Ethernet frame size of 1518.

So according to strict definition, MTU size of 1600 cannot be classified as baby giant frames as the whole Ethernet frames will surely larger than 1600 -> Answer C is not correct.

Answer D is a better choice as the MTU is 1518, so the whole Ethernet frame would be 1536 (1518 + 18 Ethernet header and CRC trailer). This satisfies the requirement of baby giant frames “Baby giant frames refer to Ethernet frame size up to 1600 bytes”.
