Drag and Drop Questions 2

March 28th, 2011 in ICND1 Go to comments

Here you will find answers to ICND 1 – Drag and Drop Questions Part 2

Question 1

As a CCNA candidate, you should master the functions of various commands. Look at the following items, some commands are listed on the left. The related roles are listed on the right in a wrong sequence. Please match them together. (Not all options are used)

save_configuration.jpg

Answer:

1) Router#copy tftp flash: replace the IOS image
2) Router#copy flash tftp: backup the current IOS image
3) Router#copy running-config tftp: make a backup copy of configuration in RAM
4) Router#copy running-config startup-config: make the configuration in RAM the configuration the router will use on startup
5) Router#copy tftp running-config: merge a backup configuration with the configuration in RAM

Explanation

First please notice that by saying “replace” we often mean changes to NVRAM and TFTP while saying “merge” or “add” we mean changes to RAM. Next we should review the syntax of “copy” command:

Syntax: copy <source> <base config filename> <destination> <destination filename.txt>

1) By default, the flash memory in a router is used to store the Cisco IOS image so the requirement “replace the IOS image” means that moving file somewhere to the flash memory. In the left columns we only have one choice which has the flash as the destination ->copy tftp flash.

2) Same explanation as above, when saying “backup the current IOS image” the flash takes the role as the source ->copy flash tftp. And “backup” means we should copy it to somewhere like tftp server, CDROM…

3) The running-config is stored in the RAM so “make a backup copy of configuration in RAM” means copy running configuration from RAM so backup server (tftp) -> copy running-config tftp

4) “copy running-config startup-config” is a very common command so no more explanation needed.

5) After solving 4 boxes above, we only have two choices left: “copy tftp running-config” & “copy flash running-config”. The bottom-right box says “merge a backup configuration” so it should be the tftp server and the command here is copy tftp running-config.

I had a question yesterday (drag & drop) that was about the IOS and the order it went in. I had 5 answers and 4 places to put them in. I chose Flash, TFTP, NVram for boot commands and ROM. I think I should have put Flash,TFTP,ROM and then the best answer fromt the 2 remaining was the NVram boot commands answer…the last answer was NVram…which I know does not have IOS in it.

    March 18th, 2010

    no thats wrong.

if you have in the boot field 2-F (default):
first look in NVRAM for boot commands in the startup-config
if there is none -> look in Flash and take the first image
if none -> send broadcasts to search tftp server
if none -> load Rommon out of ROM

I had a mini 4 unit Drag and Drop on the sequence of the DHCP offer sequence between client and sever in the ICND1 exam – I can’t recall the exact labelling something along the lines of Discovery, Offer, Deploy…..can anyone recall this one and if so provide some detail please?

    A2dPro,
    DCHP algorithm – “DORA”:
Discover – client send broadcast frame to everyone
Offer – dhcp-server send multicast frame to client
Request – client send multicast frame to dhcp-server
Accept – server send multicast frame to client

I got this question and another that isnt on this website, P4S or VCE. I cant remember the exact wording but the options were: Collaboration, ARP, DNS, Database, NAT and DHCP. The dropzones explained the process or requirement, you had to match the requirement with the protocol.

Here is what I remember of the dropzones (Wording may be a little off but you should get the idea):
“A user in an enterprise network needs IP connectivity outside the network”

“Two users would like to work on a document simultaneously without affecting each others work.”

“A computer connects to a network for the first time and needs to find the default gateway”

“A computer needs to find a URL for the first time”

“A common resource for multiple users”

Sorry if Im vague but if anyone had this question and remembers the wording better than I do, please share.

    February 2nd, 2011

I think it would go like this.
DHCP – “A user in an enterprise network needs IP connectivity outside the network”

Collaboration – “Two users would like to work on a document simultaneously without affecting each others work.”

ARP -“A computer connects to a network for the first time and needs to find the default gateway”

DNS – “A computer needs to find a URL for the first time”

NAT – “A common resource for multiple users”

  10. shawn

    Change DHCP with NAT

  11. shawn
    February 2nd, 2011

Oh, sorry the last one should be Database

  12. shawn
    February 2nd, 2011

NAT – “A user in an enterprise network needs IP connectivity outside the network”

Collaboration – “Two users would like to work on a document simultaneously without affecting each others work.”

ARP -“A computer connects to a network for the first time and needs to find the default gateway”

DNS – “A computer needs to find a URL for the first time”

Is what I think it could be? Not 100% sure on the last protocol.

DHCP – “A common resource for multiple users”

  13. SubNetzi
    February 8th, 2011

    Does seem confusing.
Depends on how you look at it… a Database could be defined as “A common resource for multiple users”.
Not clear here, but that does sound more correct than DHCP if its between those 2. DHCP could be considered a common resource, but to me that would be for multiple IP addresses rather than multiple users (symantics!).
But maybe its just my thought process. I’d be interested to know for sure which they consider correct.

    DHCP – DORA
And was there another two: (i really don’t remember the details)

The pc only knows the url – DNS,
    ARP,
Servers, routers and switches not, usually pcs use – DHCP,

    other:

Interface to surf on the web – Web Browser
Means to send, receive messages and files – Email
Structured collection of data – Database
Users editing the same file – Collaboration

Passed today with 925. These drag and drops helped a lot, however, I encountered one that is unlisted under this icnd 1 section. It was basically match these…

[Frame Relay, PSTN, Leased Line, ATM]

    …to there corresponding types…

[Packet Switched, Circuit Switched, Cell Switched, Point to Point].

    ATM = Cell Switched
Leased Line = Point to Point
    PSTN = Circuit Switched
    Frame Relay = Packet Switched

Does that sound right? After researching it, I’m certain I answered wrong on the exam 🙁

Questions i can remmeber… are as follows:

    Frame relay = Packet Switched
    ATM = Cell Swithced
    PSTN = Circuit Switched
    Leased line etc

    Another drag and drop asked:

DNS = converts human readable to IP readable information
DHCP = provides devices with settings such as DNS, Subnet mask etc…..
FTP = transfers files using a synchronised connection
    TFTP = ???????
    SNMP = ?????

    Hi 9tut,

Cleared ICND1 this morning with an 874/1000 with 20 minutes to spare. Thought I did better but i’m not complaining, chuffed to clear it 1st time. It was easier than I anticipated, put the hours in studying and you will be fine. This was my first question on the exam. You have pretty much nailed it. show running-config on both devices and answer the 4 questions. The questions above are very close to what was asked. look for clear-text passwords, passwords on the console and vty lines, weak username and password command (cisco) , login local, the number of telnet sessions allowed, is a password configured for Telnet, exec-timeout, will it allow telnet and ssh etc.

I would like to thank 9tut / xallax and the everyone else for all the time you have put into this site. This site helped me pass as most of my questions were on the site!!! From what I remember, some of the questions I got were as follows:

-Security Testlet above, all the information is displayed in the running config, just go through the options given in the 4 questions
-Drag and Drop – DHCP (DORA) / Drag and Drop # 2 (file management – copy flash tftp etc) / DNS,ARP,DHCP (know what they do) / WAN technologies (Frame Relay – Packet switched , ATM – cell switched etc)
-Implementation SIM using show cdp neighbors command / show IP interface brief
-Show configuration SIM (show run / startup command disabled)
-Transport Layer fundamentals – 3 way handshake, TCP/UDP, Flow control
-Protocol process through the layers of TCP/IP stack sending an email using HTTP (SMTP at app layer – TCP at Transport layer – IP at Network layer – ARP at Network access layer)
-Encapsulation (HDLC) – default on Cisco devices
-Troubleshooting connectivity issues – when to use a X-over cable and Straight-through, spot incorrect cable in a diagram / duplex mismatch etc.
-Service Password Encryption and what it does
-What switches do when they get a packet with a destination MAC not in CAM table – Flood
-Indicator lights on a switch – Flashing green, Green etc (what each means – Full/Half duplex, network activity etc)
-Port-security, Mac-address sticky command, know what it does
-know the packet delivery process for the sending across the LAN and WAN (what MAC is used where etc) / ARP
-RIP (what happens when you enter router rip command – defaults to version 1)
    -implementing a Static Route to default-gateway 0.0.0.0
-Subnetting,Subnetting,Subnetting (I had about 7 or 8 questions relating to Subnetting, valid host ranges, broadcast / network address etc. Practice and you will be fine. subnettingquestions.org I found really helpful. )

Hope this helps. Remember, do not memorize each question on this site, know the concepts and why they happen and you will be fine. I used CBTnuggets, Cisco Press Book, Packet tracer (I didn’t create any funky topologies, I just used it for working on the IOS entering commands) and subnettingquestions.org.

Onto ICND2 in the new year. Good luck!!!

    Hey Azia,

Thanks a lot. Been trying wrack my brain to gather some additional questions from my exam and came up with a few more to compliment the above article.

-Know the commands in user mode and the expected output once entered.

My question , command line displays:

    ———————–System Configuration Dialog—————————–
    continue with configuration dialog? [yes/no]

What command was used to display the above output?
    Answer: Router#setup

-Know how to retrieve information about a specific interface. I was asked what is the Bandwidth for the serial interface.

Answer: view diagram, use show interface serial #, retrieve the requested information

I got another question which required the use of the show interface command. In my question, the scenario was that host A wants to ping Host B via fa 0/0 interface but cannot, how will you resolve this issue, Use the show interface command to view the interface status / line protocol status. The interface was down so I believe the answer was to enter the “no shutdown” command on interface to change state to up.

Know the boot process for retrieving the startup-config , I believe the question was if the startup file cannot be found in ROM, where will the router look next?
    -Looks in ROM, none found
    -Looks in Flash, none found
-Looks in tftp server, none found
    -Boots from ROMMON

Another question related to IP addressing. The question was what Class address is required if you need 66,000 hosts. I answered Class A as Class B will allow you 65,535 hosts.

Another question was to spot the private IP address in a list of 6 address.

    The answer was 172.16.x.x

Again to re-iterate, subnetting is vital, know how to find the first / last host. Network and Broadcast address. Calculate the number of subnets and hosts from viewing an IP add/Subnet Mask. http://www.subnettingquestions.org is a great help. In addition to the questions on IP addresses above, I had possibly 2 or 3 questions where I had to identify valid hosts given an IP address and Subnet Mask.

Know the formula for calculating the number of subnets and hosts
    # of Subnets = 2^x (where x equals the number of network bits borrowed)
    # of Hosts-2^x-2 (where x equals the number of host bits in the subnet mask , or the number of 0’s in the SM)

Hope this helps, if I think of more, I will add more comments.

I had this drag and drop on my test yesterday. I also had the drag and drop with DHCP process (DORA) and the drag and drop with the ATM, Point to Point etc. listed above.

I also had a question on how do you start a telnet session to a remote router:
    A: router#login
    B: router#(config)line vty 0 4
    C: router#telnet
    D: router>login

A computer wants to establish a TCP connection with another computer what does the computer send first:
    A: Hello
    B: SYN
    C:ACK
    D:????….can’t remember

Another question I remember was one where it showed different locations marked A,B,C,D,E,F etc where you had to select the device that should go there i.e. router or switch and then select what type of cabling to used based on the length marked (220m, 3m etc.) the choices were fiber, UTP, Cat5e

Be sure to understand the security testlet and the SIM where you have to use the cdp neighbor, ip interface brief commands to find the interface and model routers for the 4 locations Birmingham, Atlanta, Boaz and Belmap. Be aware, the interfaces and router locations maybe be different that what is listed in the example. These appeared on my exam yesterday.

PASSED ICND1 today! scored 862/1000 even tho i was given a 0% on WAN Links. Not sure why i received 0% on WAN because i was sure i did well on it but im not going to complain because i still passed. My tip is to come to this website 1 or 2 hours before exam and study all topics for ICND1. I can honestly say i wouldn’t have done well if i hadn’t took the time to study right before the test. I saw multiple questions on exam that are almost identical to some on here and it helped tremendously to understand the concept, not just remember the questions.

    Study materials:
CBT Nuggets ICND1 (Jeremy is the best teacher period!)
    Official cisco press book ICND1
and this website, to be honest i didn’t really read that book that much just use it as reference and guide sometimes. GLUCK and big thanks to all of you here and 9tut! i will donate.

Had question 1. Passed 9/23/12 with a 974. This website is awesome and is a great representation of whats on the test. I had the DORA drag and drop, and also the WAN protocol DAD. The security testlet was on there. Chose banner as part of my answers and got 100% in that area. I had lots of subnetting questions, so if you are not comfortable with subnetting, practice. For studying I used this site, cisco (for the subnetting game, and also went through their review questions), and attended a CCNA course at a certified cisco learning partner. Also had the implementation drag and drop. thanks 9tut, on to ICND2. Good luck everyone.

I am totally having some unfortunate luck with all of my Cisco attempts for 640-802 and then stepping down to doing the two part 640-822 and 640-166. On my last two failed attempts with the 802 exam, I failed both exams by 10 points which caused me to go hysterical. When I decided to go for the 640-822 test, I studied hard for another 3 weeks with all sorts of tools provided:
    – Leadpass
    – CBT Nuggets
    – Testout
    – Boson 7.0 Netsim
    – ITU
    – Cisco Press ICND1 book by Wendell Odom
    – Cisco Packet Tracer
    – 9tut
    – ExamCollection
    – VCE
    – subnettingquestions.org
and I still ended up failing for with a 775/1000. I was for sure that I passed the exam when I was killing all of my practice material. I definitely do not know what is going on and this is extremely disturbing. I keep seeing others with great success stories, and I’m trying to reach that pinnacle also to relay my experiences, but damn, I’m in a hole I can’t get out of. Can anyone out there feed me some of the latest dumps for the ICND1 exam. I would definitely appreciate this as I’m trying to be a family member in the Cisco world.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I’m wondering if it’s OK to copy some of the text in my site?

This one was on mine. Took ICND 1 as a bet for co worker. I’ve been a network engineer for over 6 years. Sometimes you have to go back to the basics to see if you still got it lol. Passed my ICND 1. 890/1000. You need a 804 to pass. The security Testlet was on my exam along with the drag and drop items. One drag and drop item that is not on 9tut is ATM-Cell Switched PSTN-Circuit switched Frame-Packet switched Leased Line- Point to Point. Study Materials were Todd Lammle CCNA videos 6th edition and 9tut only. Good Luck.
