This task requires the use of various show commands from the CLI of Router1 to answer 5 multiple-choice questions. This does not require any configuration.

Show_Configuration_Sim_topology.jpg

NOTE: The show running-configuration and the show startup-configuration commands have been disabled in this simulation.
To access the multiple-choice questions, click on the numbered boxes on the right of the top panel.
There are 5 multiple-choice questions with this task. Be sure to answer all 5 questions before leaving this item.

Question 1

What is the broadcast address of the subnet of the LAN connected to Router1?
A – 192.168.136.15
B -192.168.136.31
C -192.168.136.63
D – 192.168.136.127
E – 255.255.255.255

Answer: A

Explanation

The “show running-configuration” and “show startup-configuration” have been disabled as stated above so we should use the show ip interface command to get information about the LAN network connected to Router1.

show_config_question_answer_1

From the output we learn that the ip address of the FastEthernet interface of Router1 is 192.168.136.1 and the subnet mask is /28. Therefore:

Increment: 16 (/28=1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 0000)
Network address: 192.168.136.0
Broadcast address: 192.168.136.15 (15 = 0 + 16 – 1)

-> The broadcast address of this subnetwork is 192.168.136.15

Question 2

What is the bandwidth on the WAN interface of Router1?
A – 16 Kbit/sec
B – 32 Kbit/sec
C – 64 Kbit/sec
D – 128 Kbit/sec
E – 512 Kbit/sec
F – 1544 Kbit/sec

Answer: E

Explanation

To find out the bandwidth on the WAN (serial) interface of Router1 we need to use the show interfaces serial 0/0 command:

show_config_question_answer_2

Therefore the bandwidth on the WAN is 512 Kbit/sec.

Question 3

What interfaces on Router1 have not had any configurations applied? (Choose two)

A – Ethernet 0
B – FastEthenet 0/0
C – FastEthernet 0/1
D – Serial 0
E – Serial 0/0
F – Serial 0/1

Answer: C F

Explanation

Use the show ip interface brief to identify what interfaces Router 1 have. Notice that Router1 does not have Ethernet 0 and Serial 0 interfaces. FastEthernet 0/0 and Serial 0/0 were configured with their IP addresses therefore only FastEthernet 0/1 and Serial0/1 have not had any configurations applied.

Question 4

Including the address on the Router1 FastEthernet interface, how many hosts can have IP addresses on the LAN to which Router1 is connected?
A – 6
B – 14
C – 62
D – 128

Answer: B

Explanation

The mask address of interface Fa0/0 of Router1 is /28 (as shown in question 1), which has four 0 bits (1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 0000). Therefore there are 24 – 2 = 14 assignable IP addresses for hosts on the LAN.

Question 5

The hosts in the LAN are not able to connect to the Internet. Which commands will correct this issue?
A – Router1(conf)# interface fa0/0
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
B – Routed (conf)# interface fa0/1
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
C – Router1(conf)# interface s0/0
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
D – Router1(conf)# interface s0/1
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
E – Router1(conf)# interface s0/0
Router1(conf-if)# ip address 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.252
F – Router1(conf)# interface s0/1
Routerl (conf-if)# ip address 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.252

Answer: C

Explanation

We should check the statuses of all the interfaces on Router1 with the show ip interface brief command:

show_config_question_answer_4

From the output, we learn that the status of Serial0/0 interface which connects to ISP router is currently “administratively down”. This status indicates this interface is shutting down so we need to turn it on.

Even if these are not the correct ones on the current exam, they are great for studying and understanding what to expect. It’s difficult to find practice exams with simulation questions that aren’t either completely wrong or extremely difficult.

    I thank you.

Hey, thanks 9tut for all of these lab examples, I took my test today and passed with an 812 and 1 minute and 25 seconds left on the clock. I had 4 labs on the test that came from this site and this was one of them, thank you.

P.S. the info on this site is gold

I have attempted the CCNA at first and realized it was too much in too choert of a time. I have nto been allowed to take classes, I am only able to book learn with no other instruction so I just want to say that the approach 9tut takes with the explanation of how to get to the answer is invaluable. But, I have had to step back and take this in two steps (ICND1 and ICND2) and after a couple of attempts I seem to be missing the mark. On a previous test I would make 100% on a number of categories so I would read and re-read the sections the test said I did bad on. Then on my next re-test the center shows that I did bad on what I did well on previously, and then somewhat o.k. on areas that I improved on, leading of course to a just barely failing grade. How are you supposed to learn what to correct if cisco does not let you see what you missed? I have doing my job for the last 18 years in networking and workign with cisco gear for the last 5 years, but all of the sudden I have to be certified and it can affect the outcome of my job. Any suggestions on how to first get cisco to review my past tests to see if there are some kind of errors, and second are there any other good suggestions on how to bone up on this stuff, seeing as I only have the option to read book material and go to websites such as this really great resource. I just re-tested again today and I went back and see two of the sims I had so I know I got them correct. It just makes me wonder how the computerized test is really scored as I have seen posts where the tests have been reviewed in some cases and Cisco made corrections to properly validate the test scores.

Any help is greatly appreciated and my thanks again to 9tut for this aewsome site. It is nice to see that there are places and people out there that truely want to help.

It is sad when hearing yoy failed. Please read the “Share your ICND1 Experience” https://www.9tut.net/icnd1/share-your-icnd1-experience as many candidates share their experience there. And one more thing, pay more attention to lab questions, practice with GNS3 or Packet Tracer if you don’t have real devices.

Best wishes to you in your next exam!

Passed the ICND1 test today with a 874. Just trying to help out others as this site helped me. I had this on my test. It is fairly straight forward. Read each of the questions carefully as I had a couple of different ones but similar in theory. I remembered the last question as “The users in the LAN cannot access the web. What is the cause of the problem?” or something like that and the selection was that the Fast Ethernet interface was admin down. So you would enable the Fast Ethernet interface. Good Luck!

mdanyy, switch will work on the same speed as the NIC but will failover do half-duplex (applies to scenarios when NIC speed is 10/100Mbps) if NIC spees is 1Gbps or higher the default duplex is = FULL

Hi, just wondering in Q2, I know the show interface show BW 512Kbps but I thought the actual bandwidth was given by the clock rate configuration on the DCE and not by the bandwidth command.
For example if the clock rate on the DCE is 64Kbps and I run the command ‘bandwidth 512’ on my DTE router serial interface, the show interface command will show bandwidth BW 512 when the actual speed is only 64Kbps..
    What do you think ?

Passed today with a score of 862 with 5 mins to spare, I was hoping for a score of over 900 but over the moon all the same. Just have to say that the info on her is gold dust and as long as you study hard, know your stuff and conbine that with going over all the questions on this site plus all question via VCE dumps you’ll be laughing.

Basically all three sims I had were from this site which leads to me think that they know what they’tr talking about. Ninety persent of the questions were either from here or the VCE dumps. There is a lot of subnetting so make sure you are able to do this with your eyes closed.

Studied with ICND1 Official Exam Cert Wendell Odom (a must), videos by Jeremy Ciaora (makes it all seem so easy , hundreds of VCE dumped questions and of course 9tut (amazing).

Good luck all keep going onto ICND2 now!!

@ mdanny If the NIC on a computer is set to half-duplex, and the switch is set to full duplex, the computer won’t be able to communicate with any other device.

With half duplex (HDX), you can transmit and receive, but you can only do one of these at a time i.e. (you’re either transmitting or receiving data, but not both at the same time). With full duplex (FDX), you CAN transmit and receive at the same time. So, having a duplex mismatch will not work.

Passed ICND 2 today with a 930. This site helped tons! Be aware there are lots of drag and drop questions about route poison / triggered updates / hold-down timers. Also know how RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP calculate their metric.

I actually had quite a few frame-relay questions regarding map commands and interpreting show command output.

Hardest part for me was looking at diagrams trying to figure out how many routes will go into the routing table without being able to log into any of the equipment, or finding blocked ports with spanning tree.

IPv6 questions we very general; benefits, facts, but no implementation.

    Good luck all!

I took ICND 1 in Nov 2011, passed with 900. I was so nervous during that exam that I also paniced my way to failure. Going to take ICND 2 next week, would love to hear specifics from anyone who has taken ICND 2 recently. I feel fairly confident about it, though the time to take the exam makes me nervous.

I have use Packet Tracer and GNS3 when away from home lab, use live equipment at home (4 routers and 4 switches). Although I know not everyone can afford live equipment, I want to warn those who may have taken an exam and failed, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR LIVE EQUIPMENT!! I say again, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR LIVE EQUIPMENT!!

Packet Tracer and GNS3 behave different than live equipment. I couldn’t imagine attempting these exams without real equipment to mess around with. Also, if you have failed an exam and feel down, cheer up My Friend, get a cheap router from ebay and practice the configs over and over and over until you dream about configuring OSPF, EIGRP, and Frame Relay. Good luck Dudes!

Pass ICND1 19th January with 899. This Sim in my exam have got an error. Lab shows diffrent results after commands: show interfaces and show ip interface brief (diffrent status and IP on interface). Questions are the same in Lab Sim.

    #show interfaces
    Fa0/0 – Up, Up
    Fa0/1 – Ad Down, Down
    S0/0/0 – Up, Up
    S0/0/1 – Ad Down, Down

    #show ip interface brief
    Fa0/0 – Ad Down, Down
    Fa0/1 – Up, Up
    S0/0/0 – Ad Down, Down
    S0/0/1 – Up, Up

Hey all, I had some questions.
1 ) Does issuing the command ‘router rip’ start the RIP process ? This question appeared recently. There was one close option which I selected, that it starts the rip process but no advertisement updating takes place. Please phrase the real question correctly if anyone knows.
2 ) if serial 0/0 is down, line protocol is down(disabled) while we have a duplex mismatch, means one end is half duplex while the other is full duplex, what can we say about that ?
    i. no shutdown solves this problem
ii. its a classic case of duplex mismatch.
    iii. Cable problem
I don’t remember other options but I selected duplex mismatch.
I think it was serial interface but what will happen in case of duplex mismatch if it was fastethernet interface.
3 ) If all the hubs are replace by switches in a network what does it virtually eliminate ?
    i. Broadcast domains
ii. collision domains (I hope its not collisions)
I don’t remember other options. (please bring the question if anyone knows it.)
The question was given with diagram with 4 hubs in a square shaped topology.
    Regards,
    Glam

Try to read all these comments cause it helps you how question are presented.

    I had this question:

    Question 5:

The hosts in the LAN are not able to connect to the Internet. Which commands will correct this issue?

It was not s0/0 but the fa0/1 that was administratively shut down (you run “show ip interface brief” no see this interface) but when I ran “show ip interface” to find out the mask for 1st question it was showing fa0/1 as up and protocol up. So be aware of this. I guess cisco don’t attach one question to another or maybe it was just a bug….

Passed on 31 July after two previous attemps. This site helped with the sim questions and the drag and drop questions. Several of the examples here were on the exam with minor changes. I had drag and drop DCHP process, IOS, circuit-ATM-Frame Relay-PSTN and one with random items arp, dhcp, HTTPS….
I didn’t have any sims that required config change or setup, they were all show interface or show run. Also had the security question on Router and Switch, watch for the banner message and passwords.
Read the ICND1 book, this site, subnettingquestions.com and exam collections and you will be fine. Trust me from 3 attempts, you MUST know the material and concept.

Thanks to all here for the input now on the ICND2.

I took this exam today and passed with a 925 score. This Simulation was there, but u need to be careful it wasn’t word for word. for instances my exam had a /29 for the lan interface and my bandwidth size was 16kbit/sec. and my interface fa0/1 was administratively down.

hey desp_dudecalm down brother. just doaolnwd trainsignal, cbt nuggets and pass4sure pdf 7.58, 7.63 and 7.73 right. and then prepare it from trainsignal and then watch cbt videos ok. go through trainsignal and cbt one more time. then u go through pass4sure pdfs first time. for the first time it will take you 3 days or something to go through each question in detail. now you finish pass4sure 3 to four more times. and then its upto you if you like go for videos once again and finally go through pass4sure the day before the exam. you need 15 days to follow this strategy if you havent done anything. BUT WORK REALLY HARD. AROUND 12 HOURS A DAY. if you like you can reschedule exam date after finishing everything one for the first time. but i tell you if you write on 30th september. thats a great idea.TALHAH
