What two things will a router do when running a distance vector routing protocol? (Choose two)

    A. Send periodic updates regardless of topology changes.
    B. Send entire routing table to all routers in the routing domain.
    C. Use the shortest-path algorithm to the determine best path.
    D. Update the routing table based on updates from their neighbors.
    E. Maintain the topology of the entire network in its database.

The answers are A and D.I don’t understand why B is not a correct option.

  7. Aizen
    May 19th, 2011

Hmmmmm yeah that looks like A and B …

D doesn’t seem right because distance vector doesn’t update it’s routing table from updates it does receive the full table each time, also they say neighbors which technically is used to describe fellow routers in Link state protocals, so distance vector systems don’t really have ‘neighbors’ nor do they receive event based updates.

although you can use one of the loop prevention methods known as triggered updates in Distance vector.

All that being said, I would have to say it’s A and B… Maybe it’s just a fault in the VCE

    @aizen
yes, it contains all Hmeister’s questions. i’ve changed some of them, i’ve remade some of them, i’ve added just a few from 9tut sims.

please tell me the question code (i’ve added those too just for when people would ask to change some question). it is on the top right corner. something like “Q A54”. thanks, waiting your reply

  9. xallax
    May 19th, 2011

    @Scott
    Answer A and D

    From http://www.ccna.examstock.com/?p=460
    “Explanation/Reference:
This question is to examine the concept of the distance vector routing protocol.

After a distance-vector routing protocol is started on each router, the routing tables are updated with all route information gathered from neighbor routers and send periodic updates regardless of topology changes. For example, RIP updates are sent every 30 seconds by default.”

    xallax, which VCE is your’s??

  11. Aizen
    May 19th, 2011

    @ Xallax Q A3

what is throwing me off is the classful issue and the routes learned by ospf ( excludes connected )

A bit of clarity would be great

ok if that’s the case I shall leave Hmeisters VCE and go over yours ๐Ÿ™‚ it’s nice ๐Ÿ™‚

And as for scotts question D makes sense… but B is also true no ? I think what he’s asking and what confused me is why ISN’T B correct ?

Took my ICND2 today. Passed with a 958. Great feeling. I studied my ass off for 3 months or so.

Mad props to 9tut and hmeister. Almost every question I had I saw from that VCE or on this website. I had the VTP sim and the Frame-Relay hotspot. It’s the same questions just the numbers are switched around. I only had 3 IPv6 questions and they are in hmeisters VCE. I had one VPN question but I don’t even remember it.

    Good luck all!

    @Aizen
I’m not sure where to look either. this question is from Hmeister’s file, i just redid the picture.
there are 4 interfaces on R1, all 4 could be advertised by OSPF
    OR
there are 4 interfaces not directly connected to R1 and those 4 could be learned via OSPF.

i believe the second is the right one, i’m not so sure because of the wording in the question.

    score: 888

๐Ÿ˜€ so happy ๐Ÿ™‚ ah yeah super super thanx to 9tut, Hmeister, and Xallax all have helped me alot ๐Ÿ™‚
To study went over CBT nugget vids Twice ( and randomly watched some a 3rd time to refresh bits )
did Hmeisters rev27 and xallax’s new exam ( which covers all of hmeister )

The nat sim was there, the VTP sim was there, and the frame relay hotspot ( which was last and i had just 5 mins to do ) not the best having last question a slightly longer than normal question :P.

quite a few Ipv6 Questions like 3-4 i think and they were quite hard as in know what global addresses start with and link local etc,

The VCE’s mentioned above are both pretty valid, but quite a few new questions …
Since it’s mainly on trouble shooting you really need to UNDERSTAND concepts else you won’t pass… so really know whats going on etc. and use the VCE’s to practice not to study and try remember

anyway good luck to all future test takers ๐Ÿ™‚

vtp sim was there, frame relay hotspot was there.

A bugger of a NAT questions sime which was really simple but the screen was covererd in IP addresses and subnet to confuse you!

43 questions in 75 minutes – was surprised it was not 40 questions ๐Ÿ™

But they seem to be pretty different, so which one is the best to study off of?

  38. thanks 9ut
    May 24th, 2011

    Hi guys,

I passed ICND2 today with 903/1000. The exam contain only 40-50% of the content from the hmeisters vce file….a lot of the questions are like it but slightly modified….i got the vtp sim, the frame relay hotspot and the ospf sim..

some tricky new questions that i havent seen b4 thrown in there….especially on ACLs

Still Hmeister’s VCE is still well worth praticing on, many of these questions came up. Definately know all the routing protocols really well!!

    Thanks,

I’d like to thank hmeister, xallax and everyone else that has added effort into the VCE. Its fairly relevent to the exam that I took.

    I passed with a score of 934.

Most of what “thanks 9tut” has said relates to the exam I took as well.
Use the VCE for testing purposes but definitely know the theory behind it.

the ipv6 questions I got were from the VCE so no suprises there.

I used The VCE here, testking questions and the official book.

    Thanks and goodluck

    @Joe
hey, the questions are from the curriculum. even if they change the questions’ words, you will still have the concept in mind and will know how to answer it.
how old is it? well… for that please address your question to Hmeister, i am just editing his file, fixing things here and there.
people so far havent complained about it being that old at all so… use it for practicing and good luck on your exam.

Today I passed the ICND2 exam (score:902), so i am a CCNA now!

Non-native speakers in Non-native English speaking countries get more time for their exam. I think that’s fair because sometimes we need to read a question 2 or 3 times to understand. Also words like “converged” might be a bit tough.
I live in The Neterlands and we speak native-Dutch here. So i got some extra time. I was finished in the last 2 minutes! The labs really take some time, especially when you want to verify all the subnets.

I advise everyone to learn/look-at the CCNA 640-802 labs too! You will get questions from there. For example: I got the question3 and question7 from here: http://www.9tut.com/ccna-ipv6

I also advise to know very good how the Root Bridge is selected in STP. Know that the Root bridge never has a blocking port and what switches will probably have blocking ports (bases on priority, mac and interface number (high/low) ). There were a lot of questions about this concept. (In these questions the switches had FastEthernet0/0,0/1 AND GigabitEthernet0/0,0/1 interfaces!)

Know that the AS numbers has to be the same when doin EIGRP.

Know what router will be the DR and what router will be the BDR when using OSPF (based on ROOT ID / highest Loopback/Physical-Interface IP). I got exactly Question8 from here: https://www.9tut.net/icnd2/ospf-questions

I also got a question with exactly the same topology as question1 and question2 here: https://www.9tut.net/icnd2/ospf-questions, but it asks: “From how many networks does it have updates in the routing table” or something.. Choose from: A) 2; B) 3; C) 4; D) 5; E) 6; F) 7; (8 was not in the list, although there are 8 networks. Then I started thinking it asked ‘via updates’ or something. That are just “4”. Because the other 4 networks are direct connected.

I got the exact same question as question2 from here: https://www.9tut.net/icnd2/icnd2-drag-and-drop-questions

Furthermore, I got the exact same question as question3 from here: https://www.9tut.net/icnd2/icnd2-drag-and-drop-questions-2

I had NO questions about DHCP. I also had NO questions in which I saw (or in which the right answer was): “ip nat outside”. All was “ip nat inside” stuff.

I got a new drag&drop question never seen before:
    The drag&drop was about PPP:
Most common PPP type (or something): PVC
Kind of signalling for PPP: LMI
    I can’t remember exactly.

    Good luck everyone!

  47. Aizen
    May 27th, 2011

    @ Maiden39
The A and D tests refer to Hmeisters VCE, Xallax’s VCE isn’t in the same format so the questions aren’t in same places, ( 2 questions an Exam )

    @ Test_Saturday
They are a lot, But it’s a mix up it’s best to do them all really never know which questions might pop up ๐Ÿ™‚

what you can do is say take all 500 questions, do however many you want. stop then when you do it again say do all 500 questions so it’l be a random spread again so you can keep doing say 60 questions and it’l be spread randomly over the 500

  48. CCENT qualified
    May 27th, 2011

Sat it just then, passed with 902.

I read CCNA by Lammle and watched CBTNuggets. Also did exam A & B from vce version 1.082. I’d say 30-40% of my exam came from these practice exams.

I thought it was pretty hard, using elimination and educated guessing for 2 out of every 6 questions.

Had vtp sim (the one where you have R1/Switch1 and add Switch2). Also frame relay and ACL simlet.

Study troubleshooting commands from the top down, routing, switching, system etc.

    Good luck!

    About Exam Changes:
From Aug Sept 2010 there were a batch of new questions added into the exam pool. I took the Exam around this time and the questions I had were not anywhere on the net in sites like 9tut. There was a lot of buzz around the net at that time, where a lot more people were failing due to exam memorisation instead of understanding the concepts.
The lady at the test centre informed me that there were more people failing at that time than passing and they were not sure what was going on.
The questions I had have shown up now, like the VTP SIM. So you can expect new questions to be added at any time. Around now would possibly be a time where new ones have been introduced. i.e. 6+ months later. This hypothetical though

  61. walter
    June 1st, 2011

I have reviewed the poeple who give feedback after the test on this site and there are difference versions of the test but almost the same. some got one VTP sim and some got VTP sim and Frame relay or NAT . I am doing alot of SIMS cause the other questions doesn’t have to much points. failing the SIMS you would difinitely fail the exam. the SIM value 80 to 100 points. Two SIMS 100-200=800 fail ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a sleep apnea problem and fall asleep instantly when I read and a 2 year old child and full time job – I get about 4 hours study a week in – lol
Here is what I wrote under another name in the VTP sim at the time (posts under that
name don’t showup when I type anymore so had to change)

Iโ€™ve been waiting for someone to post this Sim. It caught me by surprise in the exam.
I remember the gist but couldnโ€™t remember exactly what the question was. I came out with my brain feeling like mush.
In the exam I finally worked out what they wanted but I took too much time working it out. It seems easy now outside the exam.
Once I got the config done, I couldnโ€™t ping the other devices and no vlans showed up. I took more time trying to work out what I had did wrong.
I had to leave it in the end.
This put under more pressure for the remaining questions.

I was under stress from the start of the exam as I thought that the exam was 90 minutes and found when I started it was 75.
The first 20 questions seemed like they were from another exam. I thought I was in the wrong one and wanted to walk out.
I was so unsure of my answers that I could not go in again and assume that I would get the same mark or higher.
I failed by, from what I worked out, one answer, so I was gutted, but at the same time my mark was higher than I expected.
I had nine minutes to do the last 10 questions. ONly 6 of these questions (out of the whole exam) were in any of the prep questions I had used in prep.
I did a lot of different product test questions. Over 1600 questions. I split them up into exams of 50 questions.
I was getting 98-100%, on all the test exams. I would study the questions I got wrong.
I was confident going in but there were a lot of questions that I couldnโ€™t answer with confidence.
I have since found answers in Wendal Odoms material and CCNP material which has annoyed me.
I went to an official Cisco course for $3000+ did months of study and learned the official study material well
โ€“ still there were questions that I had never come across. I wish I could remember them to help you out.
I think the problem was that the official material had what the technologies had and could do. The questions in the exam went in the direction of what the technologies couldnโ€™t do, and I wasnโ€™t sure of the correct answer as the options were very similar.
Wendalls material explains what the techโ€™s canโ€™t do.
So I would suggest you get a copy and read it before sitting the exam.

    thanks men ! I thought so,just to check am I right !

  70. studymonkey
    June 2nd, 2011

more info on that. It is the subnet that you set on the devices that you intend to use to manage the devices. (some people set aside managemnet subnets for all NW devices)
A layer 2 switch can only have one subnet per interface which has to be a VLAN interface as you can’t give a physical interface an ip.
If you try and give for example int vlan 1 and int vlan 2 an ip address in the same subnet the switch will error with subnet clashes. (some switches I was allowed to enter same subs but had strange results with the int not coming up. Poss newer versions of IOS)
Only one interface will be in an up/up at a time as this is your management interface and that is your management subnet.
The other int. will be up/down until the first one is down. after that I’ve had to shut down the second int and then bring it up again for it to be in up/up.

Took and passed my ICND2 yesterday.

Had the VTP Config sim which thanks to 9tut I did not have any problems with.

One question that did surprise me and I think I answered correctly is:
What command would you install on a a port configured for Portfast and which receives a BPDU.
Couple of obvious answers which were wrong, plus BPDUguard or BPDUfilter – I choose BPDU guard which I think is correct having consulted the CCNA book.

Respect to all those taking CCNA who’s native language is not English, I found it hard enough and I’m English!! Respect.

Also a big thanks to this website which helped me to pass.

Hey MOHJasper which vce exam did you have ? I’m gonna take my exam on 7th June ! And this what you say about native language is true.I’m from Bosnia and English isnt native language and some questions requires very good knowledge of English. You must read it two or three times to knows about it.When the questions were on native language I can safely say that my score would be 1000/1000

@MOHJasper which vtp sim did you have ?
    from ICND2 or CCNA?

    June 3rd, 2011

I can safely say that if the test were given in a foriegn language my score would be 1000/1000 too.

Plus extra time. It is BS. America caters to others more than their own once again. Cisco loves foriegn workers. They will work for much less money and take American jobs.

Passed ICND2 3 days ago. I was given 75 minutes with 43 questions. I almost ran out of time (had 2 minutes to spare when I finished). The ICND2 was a difficult exam but If you understand the concepts, you won’t have any problems.

I studied with the CCNA ICND2 book by Wendel Odom (excellent book).
    Cisco Packet Tracer
Xallax’s VCE file <<<<<<< awesome VCE file. This VCE file helped me out a lot.
    9tut's stuff

    Thank you, 9tut!!!

    To everyone else, goodluck!!!

Walter, the SIMS that I had on the exam was the VTP sim, ACL sim, and frame relay sim. If you guys want a good VCE file to use for practice, I recommend Xallax’s VCE file; questions from that VCE file were similiar to some of the questions on my exam.

    Goodluck, everyone!

    Hey Xallax,
Here are some possible ammendments for V.1.801 which you may have picked up with the newer versions which I haven’t tried yet.

    Exam A question 17
    a small Tweek
    Networks in diagram are 192.168
    The commands add 192.157

    Exam A question 16
    10.0.0.0 in question
    10.10.10.0 in expanation

    Exam A question 9
In the exam it asked for two methods to show either
Configuration register or last method of power cycle
Answer: Sh version and sh harware
Not sure if you want to change it or not

    Qa39
    Has two switchA’s

    Qa85
    Qestion has 172.20.20.0 /24
    answer has 72.20.2.0 /24

    Qa66
Erros are not consistant with real world.
If the commands are not there then they are not compatible
New commands do not appear by running another command.
THe answer would be that the interface does not support frame relay or the question needs to be changed to show below.
    Router(config-if)#frame-relay ?
    interface-dlci Define a DLCI on an interface/subinterface
    lmi-type Use CISCO-ANSI-CCITT type LMI
map Map a protocol address to a DLCI address
    Router(config-if)#frame-relay lmi-type cisco
Must set encapsulation to FrameRelay before using FrameRelay subcommands

    QB4
The question asks for the arp cache of Host A
Host A will only have local Network ARP Entries
THe answer will be the default gateway
    D is the answer

    Qa66
The frame relay format after posting was removed which makes it hard to understand
Frame-relay ? shows a list of available commands

    Router(config-if)#frame-relay ?
    …interface-dlci… Define a DLCI on an interface/subinterface
    …lmi-type………..Use CISCO-ANSI-CCITT type LMI
…map……………..Map a protocol address to a DLCI address
    Router(config-if)#frame-relay lmi-type cisco
Must set encapsulation to FrameRelay before using FrameRelay subcommands

For those of you that didn’t see certain posts a while back. Xallax did me a favour and split the exams into 20 Questions each. My payment was to note any issues and post back so he can update the VCE file.

you can see from the exhibit that there is a telnet password (Tlnet) on the Barcelona router. if you want to connect from North to Barcelona you must type in the password Tlnet.
    no change here ๐Ÿ™‚

these questions came from the actualtest version which Hmeister edited. yes, there are mistakes, it is our duty to fix them so that people in the future get a better experience while studying for icnd2.
i am fixing it as i do 50q tests every now and then. exam period started and i cant really focus all that much on cisco, i spend time as much as i can changing this VCE file.

once again: thank you for the corrections. gratz on becoming CCNA!
