    Regarding the user “Works” posting:

“Guys i did the test a few days ago and one question about cables baffled me. They give you three devices and three possible cable connections. The devices are labelled A b c and the cables d e f. the devices are drawn as square boxes and attached to hosts. box A is connected to an ISP so you know it is a router but after that it gets a bit merky. They label the distances on the cables with one at 20m , and cable between box b and c as 210m. They provide you with different mutliple choices. you are limited by the Options they supply. you have to know about ibre cables and what devices it will connect to.:

This took me a second to realize how the answers worked. But it was a simple process of elimination. The diagram showed the internet, cable to a device, cabled to another device with a bunch of hosts, cabled to another device with a bunch of hosts.

It seems obvious that the first device is a router, connected to the internet. Followed by a switch connected to the users, connected to another switch with users. The cabling in between then was fairly simple as well. Not even knowing the answer, you can pick out the WRONG answers and have the correct answer by elimination.

I believe only 2 of the 5 or 6 possible answers picked Router, Switch, Switch. That alone eliminated most of the answers.

Question above, Implementation sim, Operation Q3 and Q5 were valid questions. And it also appeared that a group of us had the same pool of questions.

This is probably a little outdated, but I had the Implementation Sim2 when I sat for ICND1 last year. I’m studying for ICND2 so figured I’d share what I remembered from ICND1.

Gave is 15 minutes ago. I must say it was tough, not many questions from dumps or 9tut. But I did see many repeats. I would say 50-60% repeats and remaining new. Few questions had very very close options, kinda confusing. Overall great experience. I got 972.

I started with Jeremy’s Video Tuts, then read the explanations from9tut and did dumps by tjasp and Calvomak. Should be good enough. All the best to others. Thanks to 9tut and Xallax ๐Ÿ™‚

    February 21st, 2012

Didn’t do good in my exam, but passed ๐Ÿ™‚ 850. Didn’t receive any points WLAN, 60% on Implementing small routed n/w.

But, thanks to 9tut…. Most of the questions from examcollection dumps and 9tut. Couple of questions tricky, but my advice to study dumps throughly. More than 8 to 10 questions on subnetting.

Questions i remember from 9 tut:

    Implementation sim
    Show configuration sim
    WAN Questions 4, 5, 7
    Security Testlet question
    Operations 3,5
    Subnetting 4
    Drag and Drop 2

Few wireless and wan questions neither in dumps nor in 9tut + this drag and drop question

Point to Point โ€“ Lease Line
    Circuit Switched โ€“ PSTN
    Packet Switched โ€“ Frame relay
    Cell Switched โ€“ ATM

I had about 8 Q about subneting, drag and drop(DORA-DHCP), lab sim with show neighbors detail the same lab as in this website,

Point to Point โ€“ Lease Line
    Circuit Switched โ€“ PSTN
    Packet Switched โ€“ Frame relay
    Cell Switched โ€“ ATM

    security Testlet

I do not remember all Questions.

Thanks 9tut, took my ICND I today and passed, the sims from this site were on my test. There were also a lot of subnetting questions, security threats , DORA, Boot sequence, WLAN questions – a bit different than on the site here, protocols and their functions, types of cables and valid connections between various devices, etc. I would say – know your concepts and you will be fine. And not to mention this site is really heplful!!!!!

going for icnd1 then icnd2 is easier because you get less topics to study on

  19. Cruiser
    February 27th, 2012

    Hi All!

Passed the ICND1 exam on Friday, f you spend the time to read through what is on here you’ll be half way there.

The Security testlet, asking about the running-config to find out about passwords, banner messages, telnet/SSH, etc., came up & I selected banner message is a threat on the Switch Questions & didn’t select it on the Router, as the other answers were more correct (choose 3) I got 100% on the security questions.

I also had one strange question asking about splitting the following to get half hosts & half subnets. The choices were as follows….

    A. 01XXXX
    B. 1XXXXX
    C. 11XXXX
    D. 101XXX

I choose B, as it is 128 in binary, which is half of 256, it was the only choice that made sense to me.
Maybe 9Tut or someone else can correct me?

  20. xallax
    February 27th, 2012

    @cruiser
    half of how many?

option A is out of the questions, subnetmask bytes don’t have 1 after 0, never ever.
option D is same as option A.

    option B could be .128, .192, .224, .240, .248, .252, .254, .255
    option C could be .192, .224, .240, .248, .252, .254, .255

option B gives a maximum of 128 IPs, could be half of a full network
option B gives a maximum of 64 IPs, could be half of a .128 subnet

too bad you dont have the actual context, i can only guess

  21. xallax
    February 27th, 2012

*option C gives a maximum of 64 IPs, could be half of a .128 subnet

  22. Cruiser
    February 27th, 2012

    @xallax

I was confused by this question, & choose option B as it was the only logical one of the 4 choices I could make. I used the following to get my answer..

    128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
    B. 1 x x x x x x x

Maybe someone else came across the question & can remember the actual wording of it.

  23. xallax
    February 27th, 2012

    @cruiser
as i’ve said above, without the actual context we can not say for sure.

lets emphasize what’s trully important here: you passed the exam! congratulations! ๐Ÿ™‚

i passed my icnd 1 today with a 840, got a lot of WAN, wireless, cdp and of course plenty of subnetting, sims were mainly based on show commands so learn them and how and when to use them, i got a LOT of troubleshooting questions.

DO NOT RELY ON BRAIN DUMPS. They are good only as a supplement to help you prepare for the exam.

DONT rely on books only either, you will never be able to to do the sims relying just on dumps and books.

LABS LABS LABS, there is NO alternative, use gns3 or get a copy of routersim ccent network visualizer it has covers the entire ccent course and has a practice scenario for almost every aspect of it, so no hunting for ios images or practice labs on the net, i more then recommended it, config will become second nature and you will breeze through the sims. i will definitely be buying the ccna version.

a good video series like cbt nuggets, a book, a good simulator like ccent network visualizer, and of course the dumps should be more than enough to get you a pass with no more than 3 to 4 weeks of study.

    Passed today with 937 folks.

The sims on here a pretty much spot on.
A great resource and the explanations are excellent.

Did not get 1 question on wireless which surprised me.

Also used some dumps on exam collections about 70% of my questions were on that. Been terrified to take this test for months. Glad Its all done.

    Icnd2 now.

Thanks again to all those who contribute

  27. SetsAnderson

    Hey Mickl
    Congrats!!
which dumps collections were u using?

  28. Mick
    March 1st, 2012

    Failed today 800/804
Wan questions cost me and some how I managed to only get 40% for implementing a small routed network.
100% for IP addressing. I will be retaking next week.
I saw one question from here the CDP sim thats it.
The test is nothing like any prep tests and a lot of the questions are worded very cryptically so you have to think about what they are actually asking, they are purposely using language to confuse IMO.The test is no as heavy on subnetting as you may be led to believe, I actually suspect that the emphasis placed on subnetting and operations for sims may be a revenue based distraction.Don’t get me wrong if you cant subnett you wont be able to answer alot of questions but it is blown out proportion. The sims are easy show commands mainly.
If you have subnetting and are confident with operations you need to memorize trivia about wireless and everything about WAN technology.

  29. Fred

passed my ICND1 with an 850, pass mark was 804. Thanks to 9tuit.net. after visiting this site and going through all the ICND1 material here, i got confident to write and i made on the first attempt.
I had a lot of questions that came as they are from this site. but its not a matter of cramming, but understanding the concepts. Read the comments, they are so important.

  33. SomeGuyPaul
    March 5th, 2012

Passed ICND1 w/962/1000 to start the CCNA recert process.

Score req to pass was 804. 50 questions, 90 minutes.

    SIMs:
    Implementation SIM from 9TUT
    Show Configuration Sim from 9TUT
Show Configuration Sim – a router & a switch. Login and answer a set of questions about each device’s configuration – Focused on Security, i.e how could security be improved on the devices (security password encrypt, disable telnet, local user not having level15, etc)

Literally 90% of the questions on the test were identical, or nearly identical (different ip addresses, rtr names, etc) as the samples found here and actualtests. Know those questions and sims, you will do fine.

    Thanks!

    March 6th, 2012

Passed the ICND1 on 3/2/2012 – My first question was a four part question I didn’t see the boxes on the side so I answered one question only and proceeded to move past them. So I immediately had three answers wrong out of the gate. Needless to say I was stressed when I figured out what I had done. The test was very easy though. Originally I started trainig with CBT nuggets then a friend turned me on to 9tut and visual cert exam suite. Between the two all of the questions were covered in my training. When I finished the exam I had 40 minutes left on the timer. I’d say 9tut is a lifesaver but you have to understand the concepts. As far as subnetting use the magic number methodology.

  41. nettech
    March 14th, 2012

passed today, got 925/1000. To me the test was very hard. Not that many subnetting questions as I’d expected, the ones I had were very easy. There were a lot of theoretical questions about various things, very small details usually. As to the questions from here and dumps, a lot of them were similar, BUT not the same! I found some of them VERY similar looking, but they asked for a slightly different thing, so be careful as it’s very easy to quickly pick the wrong answer.

Generally study hard and pay attention to the small details. These theoretical questions were really detailed, which was very annoying to me as I wasn’t sure like 35% of my answers…. Wireless 0% obviously which is a common thing from what I’ve noticed… I also found 1 error for sure in the simulation (IP of the same interface differed in sh outputs).

I used the Cisco Press ICND 1 book, this site plus dumps. Dumps are certainly helpful but but will not let you slip through the exam. Memorising the answers makes no sense. Understand and know the concepts plus the theory and you’ll be good.

I got the Show Config and Implementation SIMs and sorta rushed through them and made crucial mistakes. I finished the test with 18 minutes left and wished I had taken more time.

  49. mgosling
    March 20th, 2012

    @xexes

no defiantly not, while for me i found that there were a lot of the Q’s from 9tut on the exam you defiantly don’t want to rely just on 9tut.

Highly recommend making sure that you can answer all of the q’s from the end of chapter questions from the text book + being able to answer all of the q’s at 9tut.

and if you really want to make sure and have some extra $ to burn you may want to look at pass4sure for practicing for the exam.

In the end you get back what you put in. In the lead up to the test i stayed back at work for 2+ hours studying.

Also make sure you are very comfortable with sub-netting can be the most time consuming thing.

Passed ICND1 yesterday with a score of 938 out of 1000 and still had a few minutes left. Passing mark was 804, had 50 questions and 90 minutes.

I got the โ€œSecurity Testletโ€ that is published here in 9tut (details may vary) and also had two lab sim that are here in 9tut: โ€œImplementation SIMโ€ and โ€œShow Configuration Simโ€. I think the sims may have had some of the ip addresses or bandwidth changed in the exam. So make sure you check the CLI for the right answer.

Passed today!!!!! Here is my advice and what I saw:
go through all of 9tut icnd1 and memorize it all! I saw probably about 20questions from this site. Saw the SIM, Security Sim, Implementation, All drag and drops, didnt see any wireless, but you never know for your exam. know what the lights mean(green, amber), cabling(cross, straight) you will get 1 to 3 on cabling alone. subnetting is big! i had a minute to spare and it would have been worse had i not mastered subnetting. when you get that dry erase sheet right your cheat sheet down for subnetting. even if you can subnet in your head you still want a back up when your brain gets fried during the test. show commands(show neighbor, show ip int br, sh interface etc.) one question is just about cabling and cisco devices and where they go. so know your fiber, cat5, etc.

my overall advice is memorize this website so you know atleast what you might see, if not word for word only the ip or names will change. BUT some questions were word for word! i bought a pdf of latest questions for ccent on ebay, and used boson and their labs which drill in your head exactly what you need to know for ccent. i used ccent sybex which you can find free on the net, but more of a skim than a serious read. Subnetting is big!, you should be able to look at the number and know with no scratch paper. when you get to that level you are truly feeling the cisco zen. Good Luck!

    donating now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on to icnd2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just passed ICND1 2 hours ago. My score wasn’t great, 850, but I passed, that’s the main thing.
    My primary study resources were:
    CBT Nuggets
Bosun ExamSim ( purchased ver for the 640-822 exam)
    Exam Cram
    Wendell Odoms CCNA Network Simulator
    subnettingquestions.com

The exam had some really, really easy parts and some not so easy. None of my sims involved any actual configuration changes. So I needed to be quite familiar with show commands and cdp. There is one sim that you need to know the difference between show cdp neighbor and show cdp neighbor detail in order to get the information you need to correctly answer the 4 questions in the simlet. It was about identifying interfaces, addresses, model types, etc of a small network to document it.
I got about 4 or 5 subnetting questions… all I can say on that is that I found the magic number method ( finding the increment) with enough practice will allow you to do them in your head and save time. subnettingquestions.com I spent 30 mins every day doing questions there.
I had probably 3 questions about mac addr changes as data traverses a network. I was surprised to see that many of those exhibits to be honest.
Some questions I definitely recognized from this site..that was always a bit of a pleasant moment in the exam. The match the WAN type drag and drop was there with PPP, ATM, Frame Relay, and ISDN was on there.
I had some super easy ones too like match protocol to function: ftp, dhcp, dns, arp, and i thin one more?
Other easy ones were: what connection oriented protocol is used to transfer files? ftp
What two protocols does dns use? tcp, udp
If you want to block telnet what port? 53 there were a couple of other easy ones, don’t recall right away
I must have had 3 or 4 security based questions as well. do a show running-config on a device and answer security based questions. ( probably my weakest area)
Not too much in the WLAN area..one or two questions that I must have got right as I got %100 in that category.
That’s all I can think of right now..

    Cheers

(and of course on the job experience which gives me access to real life equipment)

Actually, one annoying question came back to me just now.

Select 3 scenarios that would be likely to use a cross over cable. 2 were obvious, but the third i took a stab at. IIRC it was the following:

    A. Router to Router
    B. Server to Switch
    C. Router to Switch
    D. Hub to Switch
    E. Server to Router

A and D seem obvious..I cose the router to switch option for the third…anyone else have this question?

  67. vlad
    March 30th, 2012

    Arcadias the answers are: A, D, & E.

Since the router is not a switch it requires it. home routers have a switch built into it so it is different.

  71. arcadius
    March 31st, 2012

In reference to xexes question, I honestly thing it might be easier, in some respects, to take the composite exam. The reason for that being that you are bound to get some easy subnetting questions along with some easy drag and drop or easy multiple choice on the CCNA composite that will allow you to make up time for the harder questions. Sure, the breadth of material is wider, but in my opinion that would indicate that it’s harder to test in depth, in the same amount of questions, that much material . I think ICND2 is the price you pay for taking the tiered approach. You may have an easier go with ICND1, but ICND2 may be a more focused, harder exam than the CCNA composite in general. I think if you are confident in the material, and have hands on experience, you should probably consider doing the CCNA composite exam. Just my two cents.
Either way, neither exam will be a pushover. ICND1 is probably easier than ICND2, but the CCNA is probably not harder than ICND1 and ICND2 combined.

    Cheers

    March 31st, 2012

Just to add to what I said above. Looking back now, having done ICND1 and having some hands on experience, I wish I would have decided to just do the composite exam. I don’t think it really would have meant more than another week or two of study and I would now be done with it. Rather than now having a rather, I won’t say useless cert, but a rather ambigious one, under my belt and now having to do an additional ( potentially harder) exam to really reach the same goal. I do kind of wish I had of went the other way.

  73. arcadius
    March 31st, 2012

Heh, me again. But let me stress, if you don’t have any hands on experience, and are maybe new to IT or networking, the comp exam might not be a good choice for you. You’re going to blow 300 bucks on it if you fail. I came to this with 12 yrs experience as a Windows admin, so wasn’t new by any means to the OSI model and general networking concepts. In my day to day job I do some low level Cisco tasks such as creating vlans, setting up dhcp, troubleshooting interfaces, and even some VTP. My current role is actually a senior analyst dealing with SCCM and SCOM but now my employer wants a backup for our one and only network engineer, so they have me following the Cisco certification track. But I have been working with the equipment for a little while now and am quite comfortable with the IOS and most switch commands..and even a little EIGRP. So maybe take what I say with a grain of salt as I don’t know from what experience level you come from. I just finished ICND1 and am looking to be partway through CCNP by Nov or Dec. My goal being ICND2 in 4 weeks from now and at least one CCNP exam done by fall.
So if you are just getting in to IT or networking, then perhaps doing ICND1, ICND2 is maybe a better way, I just kind of think maybe wasnt the best bet for me.
But if you don’t have access to real equipment of have funds for a ( rather expensive) simulator like Odoms or Bosun or whichever, see if you can get a copy of packet tracer. It’s really quite amazing. You can build out entire networks and play with them and troubleshoot them without the need for actual gear. You can’t beat that. I have personally never really used books for more than reference material. I rely on CBT ( be it CBT or Trainsignal) and sims to learn stuff. Sure, if I need a table of something or other, a text book might be great for that, but I have never, ever, really used one as a learning or teaching resource.

@wsl and others: did you use the idcn1 dumps only (from examcollection) or also the latest ccna dumps (just skipp the icdn2 questions) ? I saw one icdn1 dump with explenations from 2011, but some questions seems for the icdn2 exam. Which one did you use ? I Don’t think there are many differences between this one from mid 2011 and the latest icdn1 dump, right ?

I ve red wendell odom, made labs (from ccent lab guide), looked at all questions from this site and made all the exams from one dump from mid 2011 (the one with explenations). Should I take a look at the latest dump from 640-802 ?

Just passed the ICND 1 test yesterday. There were some questions on WAN technology, which I missed for sure. There was a drag and drop for WAN protocols, which I missed. And there was a new lab which I did not see on any of the dumps, I think I did that right though. 9tut is very useful and helps. But practicing the labs is important. Dumps are always there, but you should be able to answer the new questions you have never seen before.
