This task requires the use of various show commands from the CLI of Router1 to answer 5 multiple-choice questions. This does not require any configuration.

Show_Configuration_Sim_topology.jpg

NOTE: The show running-configuration and the show startup-configuration commands have been disabled in this simulation.
To access the multiple-choice questions, click on the numbered boxes on the right of the top panel.
There are 5 multiple-choice questions with this task. Be sure to answer all 5 questions before leaving this item.

Question 1

What is the broadcast address of the subnet of the LAN connected to Router1?
A – 192.168.136.15
B -192.168.136.31
C -192.168.136.63
D – 192.168.136.127
E – 255.255.255.255

Answer: A

Explanation

The “show running-configuration” and “show startup-configuration” have been disabled as stated above so we should use the show ip interface command to get information about the LAN network connected to Router1.

show_config_question_answer_1

From the output we learn that the ip address of the FastEthernet interface of Router1 is 192.168.136.1 and the subnet mask is /28. Therefore:

Increment: 16 (/28=1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 0000)
Network address: 192.168.136.0
Broadcast address: 192.168.136.15 (15 = 0 + 16 – 1)

-> The broadcast address of this subnetwork is 192.168.136.15

Question 2

What is the bandwidth on the WAN interface of Router1?
A – 16 Kbit/sec
B – 32 Kbit/sec
C – 64 Kbit/sec
D – 128 Kbit/sec
E – 512 Kbit/sec
F – 1544 Kbit/sec

Answer: E

Explanation

To find out the bandwidth on the WAN (serial) interface of Router1 we need to use the show interfaces serial 0/0 command:

show_config_question_answer_2

Therefore the bandwidth on the WAN is 512 Kbit/sec.

Question 3

What interfaces on Router1 have not had any configurations applied? (Choose two)

A – Ethernet 0
B – FastEthenet 0/0
C – FastEthernet 0/1
D – Serial 0
E – Serial 0/0
F – Serial 0/1

Answer: C F

Explanation

Use the show ip interface brief to identify what interfaces Router 1 have. Notice that Router1 does not have Ethernet 0 and Serial 0 interfaces. FastEthernet 0/0 and Serial 0/0 were configured with their IP addresses therefore only FastEthernet 0/1 and Serial0/1 have not had any configurations applied.

Question 4

Including the address on the Router1 FastEthernet interface, how many hosts can have IP addresses on the LAN to which Router1 is connected?
A – 6
B – 14
C – 62
D – 128

Answer: B

Explanation

The mask address of interface Fa0/0 of Router1 is /28 (as shown in question 1), which has four 0 bits (1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 0000). Therefore there are 24 – 2 = 14 assignable IP addresses for hosts on the LAN.

Question 5

The hosts in the LAN are not able to connect to the Internet. Which commands will correct this issue?
A – Router1(conf)# interface fa0/0
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
B – Routed (conf)# interface fa0/1
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
C – Router1(conf)# interface s0/0
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
D – Router1(conf)# interface s0/1
Router1(conf-if)# no shutdown
E – Router1(conf)# interface s0/0
Router1(conf-if)# ip address 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.252
F – Router1(conf)# interface s0/1
Routerl (conf-if)# ip address 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.252

Answer: C

Explanation

We should check the statuses of all the interfaces on Router1 with the show ip interface brief command:

show_config_question_answer_4

From the output, we learn that the status of Serial0/0 interface which connects to ISP router is currently “administratively down”. This status indicates this interface is shutting down so we need to turn it on.

As far as I know, Packet tracer is available only to the Cisco networkign Academy Student. So if you know someone who has it, you can get it. I do have it but it is exceutable file.

This one was on my test today. Bandwidth was 16 K instead of 512 and Question 3 was not on my test. I wigged out for a second on this question though honestly. I was clicking on the router and couldn’t figure out why I didn’t get a CLI…….needed to click on the console host…..Duh.

I took the test and failed with a 724/1000 (passing is 804). It is essential that you know the material and that you understand what you are doing. I am getting there, but this website is a Godsend and has helped me tremendously with explanations after each question!! I am also using Boson and CBT Nuggets. Next test is Monday the 25th. I hope to ace it this time! Good luck to all. Oh, all of the sims I had were on here.

Took the Test today, Sims on this website are legit and appeared in the exam along with that a new drag and drop appeared that was not on any of the dumps that i had reviewed. The Question was something like below and pls review the Private and Public Classes and related subnetting questions. By the Way thanks god i passed the exam in one shot.
    ATM – Circuit Switched
    VOIP – PSTN
FRAME RELAY – Point to Point
    Leased Line – Cell Switched
    T1 – Packet Switched

I had this question today on my exam (which I passed with a score of 887). But the last question (#5) was different. I had the same situation only different config. I had a /29 LAN network and the Serial 0/0 was NOT administratively down. It was up up…. I choosed for:
    E – Router1(conf)# interface s0/0
    Router1(conf-if)# ip address 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.252

All other options (actually none) where vallid… Both needed interfaces where UP/UP.

failed my ICND1 today with 675 out of 805 passmark. Had most of the sims on this site just wish i had spent some time going throught them. There were many subnetting questions consisting of class B address theory. Alot of security and dhcp as well. Really struggled with the amount of questions in the time frame, ie 50 Q’s in 90 mins… had to rush the last 7 with 3 seconds to spare.

Cisco Icnd1 Videos and supplemental materials
    CBT nugget videos

Did my ICDN1 today and unfortunately could only score 724.This question was in but with no subnetmask so how do we know what the broadcast address will be.ip almost the same but .15

  32. Uzzi
    June 1st, 2013

    @Novice

If this question was there with any IP address subnet mask should not be any issue as all you need to see is it /27 or whatever, suppose if you had 192.168.1.15/27 just simply understand that it is class C with 3 bits of subnatting ,

    11111111. 11111111. 11111111. 11100000

    255 . 255 . 255 . 224

as you know each of them have 8 bits and if you remember the table

    128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1

    so /27 means subnatting of 3 bits, add 128+64+32 = 224,

your subnet mask will be 255.255.255.224. I hope it should be clear now.

    For IP address simply 32-27 = 5 now 2x2x2x2x2 = 32 – 2 = 30, These 30 are useable IP Address of this subnet.

192.168.1.0 will be network address, and 192.168.1.31 will be Broadcast address.

I hope you got my point………..

I sat my ICND1 about 5 weeks ago and failed with a 799 – used the CCENT for Dummies book and Trainsignal videos, which I thought were both very good. So I then bought the Boson Exam Sim Max and spent 2 weeks in Thailand 8-11 hours per day doing the exams in both learning and test modes (scoring 950 average), went to BKK Uni and failed AGAIN with a 762! Admittedly I had a terrible night’s sleep and was just not feeling up to sitting an exam but it was too late to cancel 🙁 Then I remembered this site and will be studying all week next week with the Boson Sim and this site and will hopefully pass. There was an interesting question there about sending an email and the OSI/TCP layers and protocols used…

    I used:
CBT Nuggets – I watch the entire series once a week for about a month and that really helped me to learn the concepts. Use Google search and YouTube for all your questions.

I have passed ICDN1 yesterday with 960 points. There were 2 or 3 questions that I have not seen in this website. Regarding to this lab, one weird issue happened to me. When I typed show ip interface, it prompted to me that s0/0 is administratively down/down. However, when I typed show interface s0/0, it prompted to me that s0/0 is up/up. This made me very confused. I am sure that I issued right commands and my vision is good.

@Cles Question number 4 is not 6, it is 14 because we are dealing with /28 and our increment is 16. 16-2=14 we subtracted 2 from 16 because the first one is our network Ip address and the last one is our broadcast IP address. I hope this helps.
