Tried the ICND1 today. Just like Terpsfan I scored a 799 and did worst on WLAN questions.

So basically I must have screwed up on about a single question, and the sad part is that I saw a mistake I made just after I clicked next, so if I hadn’t done that, then I would probably have scraped through and gotten my CCENT on the first try.

Now at least I have some idea where my knowledge is lacking, and I can study harder on those fields before I try again.

100% Implement and verify WAN links
89% Implement a small switched network
79% Describe the operation of data networks
67% Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements for a small branch office.
67% Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats
60% Implement a small routed network
33% Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN.

So yeah. definetely gonna study hardest on the topics I scored below 75% on.

At least time was no issue for me. I took my time with every question and was left with an hour to spare when I was done. I made up my mind about each answer before proceeding, but sadly, once or twice I kinda stared at the screen for minutes on end to no avail, only to realize the mistake right after clicking next.

Request Timeout : Which layer problem and why?

    Could you please help

  16. George B.
    June 14th, 2011

    @ Ranyhyn & Ratbear

Do you have an implementation sim question that needs configuration? like configure IP and passwords?

  17. xallax
    June 14th, 2011

    @Niraj
request timeout: it got to a certain point on the internetwork and a device in-between replied that it did not receive a confirmation of receipt from the next point along the way to the destination. this is a Layer3 protocol (ICMP), the problem could be L1, L2 or L3 (cable disconnected or malfunctioning, encapsulation mismatch, routing protocol incorrectly set…)
long story short: something isnt functioning right on the internetwork.
    http://www.brainbell.com/tutorials/Networking/The_Request_Timed_Out_Message.html

destination unreachable: it’s a message you get if your packet is intended for a device on an external network and it can’t leave towards that point
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICMP_Destination_Unreachable

    hope it answers your question

I tested today and scored a 850…completed ICND1 exam with 40 mins remaining.
Listed below were on my ICND1 exam and I used 9tut to study:
    – Implementation SIM
    – Show Configuration SIM
    – Security Testlet (they asked to select security issues;3 for Switch and 2 for the Router
    – Operations SIM
    – Each of the Drag and Drop
Had 3 wireless questions. PLEASE be sharp on Subnetting
I’m telling you if you really study the 9TUT Sims you will have no problems correctly answering the sim exam questions, it got me through.
So, Study and prepare well and you’ll do fine and pass.
Remember to breathe and take your time…good luck.

The most important – pay attention while using GU examination interface – almost cost me a lot, as I pressed a button NEXT to another question after just first of four tests was done – scroll bar was not visible and I was in rush.

    Othervise it is not complicated but did take some time to rich the point of subnetting in head – no pen or paper;

I passed with preliminary 899, but the most important and first testlet i skipped – by mistake. Now I’ve been waiting for 72 hours until Cisco send me the final score.

All above mentioned was on test and I studied VCE CertifyME from May-2011 for .822
plus finished Cisco Academy. Now I see, since I’ve found 9tut that was not that necessary to spend money, as it’s possible to learn many things from CBT, LAmmle, 9tut and VCE – and for passing the exam topics are well explained. Plus – people are honest and supportive.

However – study hard and let the knowledge to digest first.

Thanks 9tut for giving the real meaning to the technology that we are study here.
    Go internet go !!!

Now – go for ICND 2.

I think the best answer for this question is A, C, F

  38. xallax
    June 28th, 2011

    A) you can not set an interface password…
    B) from that prompt you can work on only one physical interface, not all interfaces
    C) you can enable or disable the interface (enable or no enable). TRUE
    D) TRUE
    E) the prompt would’ve been Router(config)#. FALSE
    F) you use the command ip address IP SUBNET. TRUE

    C, D, F.

Hey All, I need all the help I can get , please. I took the exam and failed and I remember one particular question that I know kicked my butt and for the life of me I can not figure what I did wrong. I oped a window and it gave the instructions of what to expect that to score maximum points you have to perform all tasks on both the router and the switch. You have to choose 2-3 tasks on the router and then choose 3-4 tasks on the switch. UYou then click on a different window and there is the router on the left and the switch on the right. So I choose Banner Motd, A password and some other task for the router and then clicked on the router and the CLI opens and you have to perform the tasks that you chose and whatever I did NOTHING worked. So not to lose any more time I skipped over to the switch chose my tasks and same thing- nothing worked. Can anyone who remembers this please tell me what I am doing wrong… ANY HELP??

    @ BIGD

This sounds like the security sim. Alls you do is use the sh run command to find the answers to the question. You do not have to configure anything on the router or switch.

By the way I passed the exam today with a 974. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this site.

  42. BIGD
    June 30th, 2011

Thanks, Me. You have no idea how long I have beeb trying to figure this out. After you find the answers from doing SHOW Run, do you have to type in the correct answers? I remember the MOTD task where it says Welcome to Router A.. DO you change it to No Unauthorized Access. Also, the Weak Passwords task, do you have to change it to a stronger password? If so, I didn’t notice where they want you to find the passwords they want you to use.

Me, thanks again for getting back, I don’t mean to keep asking and going over this question, but when you clicked on the router and switch didn’t the CLI open up? I do remember that when you had to choose 2 things for the router and 3-4 things for the switch there were small boxes next to each one. Maybe your right, you just have to check off the answers you want. Then why does the CLI open if you click on the devices? I keep going back to that….

@BIGD: Packet Tracer is available on Cisco site for download (as I remember), and your can open for example torrentz.eu site, input “Packet Tracer” and there you go (all you need is a good torrent client – uTorrent for example).

@Cheat: Why are you trying to be a Cisco certificated if you are not interested in the networking field? There is no point of having a certificate, if you lack a proper knowledge. This is like wanting to become a marine biologist or vetenarian and being afraid of animals – there is no point.

I guess the majority of people on this site are taking Cisco exams, so they (including me) can get a better paid job. But what good will it do, if you won’t be able to maintain and troubleshoot a network – you will get fired sooner or later, and you could bitch around that you *have* a certificate, but in the end, you know shit about how network work.

So, in my opinion, if you want to become CCENT or greater, first try to learn this stuff and then when you think you are ready for the exam, read some online questions, go through the exams on this site, but don’t memorize them, try to understand them.

You know, to become a CCENT, CCNA or CCNP you only need to take five steps, which are:

    1. LEARN
    2. UNDERSTAND
    3. CONFIGURE
    4. VERIFY
    5. TROUBLESHOOT

    The key is UNDERSTAND!

For example, if you take this sim (https://www.9tut.net/icnd1/labsim/implementation-sim) there is no point of trying to memorize how to solve it, because in the real exam everything is mixed. It is easier to learn about CDP and how can it help when solving this kind of problems. And again, you have to understand stuff. If you cannot “dissect” the output of IOS command “show cdp neighbors”, you don’t understand the concepts, and that the whole point – understanding!

    Good luck with your studies.

@MyNameIsSam: thank for your comment, to be honest my road map will become CCENT, CCNA, CCNP in next 2 years later. i was finished preparation but just need exactly dump which is most popular in the exam. i noticed a lot dump from internet like exam collection but it seem a lot and could identify which one are correct most.

@MyNameIsSam The Cisco exams are a total rip-off. I worked as a net admin for 10 years and out of nowhere my job mandated a CCNA. It is a money making scheme by Cisco. It took me a while to pass their rigged composite test. People should use every option at their disposal to pass these BS tests.

    July 14th, 2011

@Bryan: I agree that certification is a rip-off, but it could help you get a better paid job. For example, college tuition fees are a rip-off, but you have a higher chance to get a job with a college degree than without it.

And Cisco is not alone in this field. Microsoft, IBM, etc.. are the same. The only difference is that Cisco makes their certifications harder to get, and are thus more valuable to you and your future employer.

Agreed, I don’t know about anyone else, but I want to make sure that what ever I do I want to work hard for it. I don’t want anything handed to me. I feel better knowing that I busted my a** to work for what is mine and no one had to go out of there way to give it to me. As far as this site, I think it is fantastic, it helps people get a little further, so what if people posted the answers. I got hit with the security sim and for weeks I couldn’t find out what I did wrong and it literally drove me nuts and someone mentioned this site and sure enough here it was and I found out that I was studying for it the wrong way. So in essence, it corrected me because I would have went home again and studied for it again the wrong way. Don’t get me wrong, i don’t believe in cheating either, doesn’t get you no where and eventually it will catch up to you.

passed my icnd1 925. I usually run out of time fast, but briefly reviewing 9tut sim questions saved my a good 25 mins on the exam.

This information a great before test, see if you understand it material. You should not even take the test if all you are looking for if enough info to pass. What happens when you need to solve a real problem at work?

The material here works. I would expect to see these types of questions such as understanding how to use the CDP commands to create a network map.

So far I’ve read at least two books, used plenty of commercial programs including a network simulator. Also LABSIM which has some very good lessons. The stuff here just helps to get ready for the test, and more importantly to understand the different types of questions you will face. The four types, and the timing is something that you should know before waling into the test. Plenty of people lose out because they think the Sim’s and simlets, plus those multiple question questions are going to take too much time they rush through the simple multiple choice ones and lose valuable questions.

@BIGD: I totally agree. I missed some questions on CCENT exam, and I think is foolish of Cisco in that it does not tell you which questions were missed and what were the correct answers. Sometimes you can learn a lot from your mistakes.

Brilliant website guys. Passed my CCENT yesterday, and this site helped me a lot. About 3-4 of the sims came off here and and 2 of the drag and drops. Going over these questions saved me about 20-30 min. Great stuff!

In ICND1 do you have to configur NAT or just understand the operation of PAT and NAT inside and outside addresses?

I understand NAT and remeber some of the steps to configur NAT get a bit confused with ACL.

Can you specify what sims came out in your exam?

    Thanks in advance…

Took the ICND 1 today and passed with a 920. Had 50 question with 4 sims/testlets altogether. Remember testlets count as ONE question not 4. All IPs on the exam were different from the “dumps” and sims you see online so you better know how to subnet fast on paper or in your head. Most subnetting was on Class C addresses so its easy to do in your head. I had the sims and testlets in the first half of the exam which took some time and I got alittle spooked when I saw the time running but the second half was so easy that in the end I had over 25 mins left.

There was a wireless Q Ive never seen before asking about 802.11 standards requesting 3 choices. Remember 802.11 has 14 channels NOT only 11. Also 802.11w is in fact one of the standards.

NAT sims are not part of ICND 1 but there were 1 or 2 basic questions, remember PAT uses TCP ports.

The sims are not exactly the same as u see here. The IPs are different and the drag-ins are scrambled. If you study them they are very easy when taking the test.

I think the most important thing to know about this test is if you CANT do class C subnetting in your head you might run out of time. No joke, learn to subnet in your head! You will thank me later.

Is the implementation sim 2 in your exam or the implementation sim only…

    Thanks

I just passed the icnd1 yesterday with 962! Dont have much of a background in networking. I prepared mainly from the cisco press books and the net for reference. All of the topics on the exams are in there. Need to sure of all the concepts. And I used this site and ariel vce a week before the exam. these really helped a lot!! helped me get an idea of the questions i would face on the exam… Many of the queestions are similar to the ones here. I would suggest to study the material first and then use this site to check ur concepts/knowledge a little before ur exam date. Thanks!!

@MyNameisSam – infosec managers are required (or should be required) to have a deep understanding of networking, so I’m getting a CCNA even though I never intend to do any network ops. That is one reason why people get the cert — the other reason being is some It jobs want you to have the cert even though very little of your job will be involved in network engineering. Where I live, a typical job posting wants a person to have a CCNA, MSCE (or MCITP), a BS in computer science, plus the sun, the moon and the stars…
