Passed ICND2 today with 940+. Exam was quite hard, and without 9tut.com I am not sure if I would have passed it. I didn’t memorize sims, but 9tut gave me some understanding about how sims are constructed in ICND2. I had alot of VTP, ACL and routing questions. Some OSPF and FR. Even RIPv2 🙂

My advise for future exam takers: really try to understand how STP, VTP, ACL, OSPF, EIGRP, FR work, and I mean it…really try to understand it using GNS3 or Packet Tracer. Do various show commands and try to understand every output you see.

Failed test today due to computer freezing at halfway point and proctor being unhelpful. I am bummed and don’t know how to fight this. Does anyone have any insight on this?

  13. MyNameIsSam

@Breezy: I think the testing center where you took your exam, and where their computer froze, should refund you – aka pay you for your next try (although I would seriously consider about going to different testing center)

Just passed the ICND 2 today 902/1000 thank 9tut and xallax

Had a few drag and drop the VTP sim and question on ACL, NAT, FR, VLAN, VTP,OSPF and EIGRP

Like everyone says make sure you know the concept VERY IMPORTANT!

  16. wolfman
    August 6th, 2011

Passed test today with 920 🙂 Just like JA, I was pretty sure I had bombed the test when I finished because the majority of the questions seemed really hard.

Surprised to only see 2 IPv6 questions, 1 frame_relay question and no VPN questions on test. Saw a ton of questions from 9tut on the exam. Test mostly about EIGRP, OSPF, ACL, NAT, VTP and STP. I have to agree with others…seeing the questions first is great, but if you only memorize and don’t know the concept you will be toast.

study materials: packet tracer (best investment ever), CCNA ICND2 by Odom, CCNA by Lammle, and of course 9tut!

on the erase board I write the following before I start:

    128 192 224 240 248 252 254 255 (subnets)
    128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 (block size)
    2 4 8 16 32 64 128 x (number of subnets)

Knowing your subnetting (specifically block sizes) is key to saving time on a lot of questions.

I think I’m going to have my well deserved beer now…cheers!

Passed yesterday with 916/1000. piyush or xallax and 9tut. 2 months of studying and reading everyday. there is no doubt u have to know the concept so memorizing doesnt work. test was actually pretty easy compared to the questions i have studied. thanks to 9tut. know EIGRP, VTP, ACL, STP, NAT, only had VTP SIM and some drag and drops and hot spots. i had my well deserved beer.

what is the meaning of the output MTU 1500 bytes.

The exhibit is the results of a show Ethernet 0 command

The VCE says the answer is : The minimum packet size that can transverse the interface is 1500 byes.

I think the answer is wrong it should be the Maximum frame size that can transverse the interface is 1500 bytes per second.

    can anyone please answer.

    Thank you in advance guys.

    August 6th, 2011

    @Gavin
what VCE are you referring to?

  20. manopsteel
    August 7th, 2011

    by cisco definition:
Maximum transmission unit (MTU) defines the largest size of packets that an interface can transmit without the need to fragment. IP packets larger than the MTU must go through IP fragmentation procedures.

    Another Question:

Below the exhibit of the show ip nat translation

    Pro Inside global Inside Local
    1.1.128.1 10.18.14.90
    1.1.129.107 10.18.14.91

    1.1.130.170 10.20.122.234
    1.1.135.174 10.20.122.240

Which command would allow the translations to be created on the router ?

    A- ip nat mypool 1.1.128.1 1.135.254 prefix-length 19

    B- ip nat mypool 1.1.128.1 1.135.254 prefix-length 18

The other answers are not worthy put here

with the above info, even with netmask i don’t know

  33. xallax
    August 9th, 2011

    so… the range is: 1.1.128.0 ~ 1.1.135.255. that’s 8 bits + 8 bits + another 3 bits (135-128 = 7. 7 < 8. 8 = 2^3 <– that's the number of bits, 3). 8+8+3 = 19

the mask would be 0.0.7.255, the cli NAT command would be:
    ip nat mypool 1.1.128.1 1.1.135.254 prefix-length 19

my answer is A. am I wrong?

  34. Gavin
    August 10th, 2011

Your calculation makes sense, the VCE answer is B, a prefix length of 18

I think the VCE answer is wrong.

Came really close to passing but had a few odd questions that may of threw me off. Frame Relay sim is easy, but there still is that typo in the address for one of the questions. Anywhere here’s my two questions

One question showed an image of show mac address-table output and asked what type of device was connected to fe 0/23. The choices were a Router, Switch, PC, and a fourth device which i hadn’t seen the picture. Apparrently it was an ATM switch? (here is the picture of the icon http://www.itaustinweb.com/newmedia/ciscoicons/atmswitch.gif) All of the entries were listed as dynamic and there were multiple mac addresses list for fe/023. What would the answer be? ATM switch?

My second issue was a question dealing with subnetting. It was the classic your company received the address block, 192.168.43.0/24, one of the router wan links was already assigned. My problem is with one networks had 83 hosts in it, there for it would need a /25 subnet correct? (/25=128 addresses=126 useable) However, the only choice given with a /25 was something along the lines of 192.168.43.245/25 … how is that even an accurate choice?

    Thanks!

Refer to the exhibit. what will happen to HTTP traffic coming from the internet that is destined for the 172.16.12.10 if the traffic is processed by this ACL.

    40 permit tcp 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255 any

A – Traffic will be droped per line 30
B – Traffic will be accepted per line 40 of the ACL
C – Traffic will be dropped, because of the implicit deny all at the end of the ACL
D- Traffic will be accepted, because the source address is not covered by the ACL

    The answer says C

me i will go for A

    What do you guys reckon?

Thks for the answer in advance

I would say C because the question states “traffic coming from the internet and destined for 172.16.12.10”. All the lines of the ACL say that 172.16.12.10 is the source address so only the implicit deny at the end would kill the packet.

  46. grimster
    August 11th, 2011

The correct answer to the above is C not A.

  47. xallax
    August 11th, 2011

    C.
it comes from the internet towards 172.16.0.0 and it matches the implied deny any any at the end.

    @grimster correct.

@xallax It was one of the questions where you could only hover over the router, and the output given was “Fe 0/1: ? S 0/1: 192.168.245.85/30” No access to CLI or anything else.

I went through 2 VCE’s last night (1000+ questions) searching for those questions. With the similiar subnetting questions, the highest # of required hosts were in the 30s or 40s. With “show mac address-table” question, I could not find an example anywhere, not in the VCEs, 9tut, or even on any of the Cisco Learning forums.

  51. xallax
    August 11th, 2011

they gave you show mac-address-table! that is very important. why? because you could’ve looked there for MAC of devices connected to fa0/23.
if there was just 1 MAC then… it was a router or a pc
if there were multiple MACs then it was a switch. i’m guessing that this is the case, it was a switch.

    wish i had the output

for example : when we type sh in packet simulator and then press TAB key then it will automatically suggests “show” command. actual exam’s simulator is also suggesting it or we have to type it completely??

took the test yesterday and failed. people should be aware of something – the more sims you have on your test, the fewer questions, when it showed only 40 I knew I was up for trouble. Had all the sims, all the simlets & ran out of time, plus IPv6, not a good time, didn’t fail by much

so, the lesson is you have to be ready to work fast, not just know the sim

I’m not going to violate the non-disclosure policy, but two problems were a hang-up: the NAT simlet was a very difficult one, unlike any I’ve seen and the VTP would not accept the vtp mode client command (maybe I had it out of order, it was the last sim and I ran out of time, can’t remember) but I looked it up afterward, correct command was rejected — I was rushing because time was ticking away…

almost all sims, that’s why it took so long – have to be fast to do it in 75 minutes, each sim has 4-5 questions but counted only as one question in the exam

I almost failed. I thought I already fail coz starting from nos. 1~7 multiple choice on my exam was not inside xallax vce or rather 9tut.net, im sure of it… That’s why a big warning to all. Do not memorize or rely on vce practice exam, understand well the concept and principles. If you are just lucky enough that all you reviewed from the vce or 9tut comeout on exams, you may say Ur chosen to be lucky like my ICND1 (result=942), but for this ICND2 its a bit tough for me, but still I got it 874, with hardwork review and prayers help, I got it. . Still I am very thankful to all who are sharing their experiences here and most of all this site 9tut…more power 9tut. I can sleep well now after a 1.5 month of study ICND2 every night. Failed by a bit last night (result 804). I had the same exam as “Watch the Clock”. Failed with his question 1. Did not know :: was a valid address. Also failed question 7. Do know what PVC is, but the wording was so different i think i did make the wrong choices (i’m not a English native speaker).

One question was about ACL and secure web browsing. But HTTPS was not there only HTTP. Also not the port 443. Believe this is an error in the exam. Or maybe “Watch the Clock” could tell me what i did not see ;-(

One question was about ACL not allowed to browse. The did remove the access-list from the outside and put it on the inside. Does this have an difference in effect? My answer was no as the data needs to come back from the webserver and the result will be that it failes. But not sure if i’m right. Can someone help me the correct answer?

I did have 30 minutes left.

This is another question I remember, but noticed the answer is wrong on a lot of practice exams.

Which command will show the MAC addresses of stations connected to switch ports?
    A. Switch# show mac-address
    B. Switch# show arp
    C. Switch# show table
    D. Switch# show switchport

The answer is A. Switch# show mac-address, but the answer normally picked is B. Switch# show arp. Both commands will show you the mac addresses, but show mac-addresses will show you which physical port they are connected to.

    Hi Watch the Clock,
in regards your latest question, I was reading this in a forum, users please share your thoughts.
**They are trying to trick you because show mac-address-table is the correct command, however that answer is not a choice and the next best choice would be show arp.
Show mac-address is an invalid command.
    show arp(cache)
    Displays arp cache

The following is sample output from the show arp command:
    RP/0/RP0/CPU0:router# show arp
Address Age Hardware Addr State Type Interface
    10.4.9.2 00:59:32 0030.7131.abfc Dynamic ARPA MgmtEth0/RP0/CPU0/0

    @Spainvasion
This one is really tricky because the question indicates you need to identify the “switch ports”. show arp does not show you the switch ports, but it does show the IP. I used the VTP Sim and ran a few show commands to show the results. I first ran show mac? and the results show mac-address table as the only command option. I then ran show mac and this produced the mac address table. This was to illustrate short commands work if there are no other options. I repeated the command with mac-address and mac-address-table which also had the same results. The last command was show arp and you will see that it only list 1 mac-address and it is different then the 2 produced by show mac-address-table. Do you know why that is? show arp maps a layer 3 ip to a layer 2 mac address. show mac-address-table maps a mac address to physical ports on a switch.

    – I had 1 Lab Sim: VTP
    – From what i remember:
    – vtp domain: east_valley
    – ip default gateway: 192.168.22.97
    – The other switch was using 192.168.22.98 … the question asked me to use the first usuable so i used 192.168.22.99 255.255.255.224 . Scored 100

    – I did not get an EIGRP, NAT, OSPF, Access-list LAB where i had to configured any RTR or SW
    – Got Frame-relay Sim… know ” show frame-relay map” & “show run “command and you’re good.
    – Had 3-4 Drag and Drop, which are listed in the dumps and in here.
    – Know Port Security for a SWITCH, I had alot of those questions.
    – Most of the STP and VTP questions are exactly from the dumps understanding the concepts are more important.
    – “1” drag and drop VLSM
    – “1” drag and drop ACL

    Study Material:
    – cbt nuggets <– Gives me a foundation of the concept

    @Watch the Clock,
thanks for this explanation, so this would mean that the correct answer is A. Switch# show mac-address?
because the question states: Which command will show the MAC addresses of stations connected to “switch ports”?

    Thanks in advance

  92. x1
    August 19th, 2011

    @Watch the Clock & Spainvasion
CCNA level deals with layer 2 switches.
Mac-address-table will have layer 2 entries i.e. source mac’s from devices connected to ports. Arp entries are for layer 3 activity mapping the IP address to mac addresses.
On L2 Switches we will only get arp entries for management activity on the swich e.g. pings telnet and ssh activity etc.
The MAC addresses connected to the ports will be in the mac-address-table (mac-address as the short command as there is mac-address-table “mac address-table” and “mac access-group” variants of the “show mac command)
    I would choose A:
B: you would not get any of the port connections on a layer 2 switch with sh arp, the port would be the management vlan, VLAN1 for example.

Just curious, has obtaining a CCNA actually helped you guys land jobs? I am in the boat of where I have had an amazing job for years and they are just now asking me to get it. It has been a while since I have had to search for a job and am just curious as to how much weight this cert holds. Good luck to everyone out there!

CCNA is a required cert on many job posting. They hold value because companies get Cisco perks if they have a CCNA certified employee. I have seen many many job posting that require at least a CCNA.

Passed today with a 930 score. I am now CCNA 🙂 I had 2 sims, and 2 simlets. LOTS of new questions. 43 questions and 75mins of time. I had only about 7-8 mins left on the clock. You REALLY need to work FAST when taking this exam. I thought I was going to run out of time as I was getting hit with sims and simlets in the first half. The multiple choice questions I had pretty much covered every topic. Again, LOTS of new questions. I would say 40% of the questions I have never seen before and the questions that did look familiar were altered with different ips, or routing tables, or diagrams. The test is different from what you see on this site.

My studies : Watched CBTnuggets twice, this website, 500+ practice questions, some old sybex CCNA book, and setup 2 older routers and one old switch to practice on at home. Also the Cisco learning network is pretty good.

    Finally I can sleep for a few days 🙂 🙂 🙂
