I failed my ICND2 yesterday afternoon with a mark of 748 and the passing mark is 825, I was 77 points off which I presume is around 5 more correct questions. There actually was not a lot of stuff from 9tut on there – I had a total of 45 questions on my exam and I’d say only about 10 of them I recognised from 9tut which isn’t exactly a great ratio. I was surprised as 9tut was so great for when I took and passed ICND1 and I recognised so many of the questions on there from 9tut. But not so great for the ICND2 exam I did yesterday. VTP and Frame Relay sims were on there. I had a mind panic moment on the vtp sim when I was trying to enter the gateway address in the interface command line when its gotta be in global config…. Anyway I sank too much time into that sim and as a result I ran out of time and had to guess the the last 4 answers without even reading the questions.

I also had to rush through the Frame Relay sim due to lack of time (think it was my question 41) where if I could have just taken the time I would have got full marks as its an easy sim. There also seemed to be an awful lot of questions on switchport security, IPv6 and NAT – all areas that I am slightly weak on. I think the large focus on IPv6 stuff is not fair as there aren’t a lot of IPv6 practice questions out there in order to help you familiarise yourself with them. And besides, I thought having more stuff on IPv6 was the point of the new exam being introduced in October…

So Im surprised at how many questions were on there that I didn’t recognise and shocked at how many questions seemed to asking about obscure material. To some degree it does ‘feel’ like the exam was ‘trying’ to trip me up. I’m pretty bitter and quite gutted about it. Suppose I will take it again next week or something. Really thrilled about that….really thrilled……can you tell how excited I am?

Hi Jay, thanks for the detailed review. I know it’s depressing, hang in there. You will definitely get it next time 🙂

    Jay,

No offence Jay but tbh you were almost 100 points away from passing. If you study the areas you are weak on and bring yourself up to speed you WILL pass & you’ll find you will be a better CCNA from it. Dont look at it as though its a bad thing, as you dont want to JUST know the material… Dont forget the foundation knowledge of networking is learnt at CCNA, you have to know a hell of alot more to troubleshoot effectively.

Just took the new icnd2. No config sims, no ip6, 1 show command simlet on frame relay
Plenty eigrp, ospf, and frame relay. Passed with a 965. 3 drag and drop on routing protocols.
Sorry cant remember any more, still buzzing.

In response to ‘Some guy’ – to be fair to I do appreciate what your saying and agree it is better to understand the material rather than learn questions. I’ve always maintained that while some questions are remembered, I do understand whats going on aswell, most of the time anyway. If I’m honest those weaker areas of mine that I mentioned, NAT, switchport security and IPv6; switchport security – I actually thought this was ICND1 (been a while since I took it so thats my bad), NAT – I do get what it does although the nitty gritty of it loses me a bit so I need to look at this more, IPv6 – I literally thought I may get 1 question on this asking me something along the lines of how many bits make up an IPv6 address and not much more than that, I didn’t know it was covered in so much depth.

But yeah, agreed I need to further look at these topics. My time-management didn’t do me any favours, it was annoying that I had a bit of a ‘moment’ on a simple sim and it sucks that I ran out of time and had to completely guess the last 4 questions as I will have undoubtebly thrown away easy marks, (don’t even think my last answer even got submitted as think I ran out of time). To be fair to myself, I know it seems like I was quite a few marks away from passing but I don’t think its a true reflection of my knowledge. Its not an easy exam generally and a large step up from ICND1. Initially, I wanted to re-take as soon as I could but have realised this week isn’t a great one for me as have a lot on schedule-wise. So I think the re-take is going to be next week for me and I will spend the time in between going over stuff and doing more practice questions.

Failing is just a bit gutting though, especially when you pay so much to take the exam.

This was my second time taking ICND2 and I failed agin with a 790. I though I was doing so well with the exam so you can imagine just how shocked and piss I was when it said “NO”. i do not where where I am falling short on…

Hello everyone, I am taking the exam this Friday, and I wanted to ask a couple questions to those of you who took it recently, maybe Jay, Canada Joe, or Bridge and jump in….

I know my VTP Sim and have it down, and I think I will be fine on multiple choice…

but my big question is the Frame Relay Testlet/Sim everyone keeps mentioning…. can anyone link me or tell me what specifically/exactly that one is. I want to be prepared!

    Thank you so much

Hi – Can someone describe what the fram-relay testlet is like? is it something that needs to be configured or is it a series of questions where you need to enter commands to get the answers? any help would be great. Also is the the sims all here on 9tut?

    June 27th, 2013

Hello! I have just wrote the exam about an hour ago – 958, went well. If you study 9tut and the HeavyMod dump (271 questions 40 something votes) on exam collection you will be 100% set for the exam.

VTP and Frame Relay – frame relay was just the 4 questions Nick pointed out a few comments back – follow his link to the frame relay hotspot.

I took ICND1 and passed. Im studying for ICND2. Where should I focus my 9tut efforts? The pages with all CCNA 640-802, OR… Just the ICND2 640-816 section will do? TIA

  19. Haji
    June 28th, 2013

    Just the ICND2 640-816 section will do… that is what I did…

  20. Greg
    June 28th, 2013

@ Haji ICND2 640-816 seems there are only few exam topics, do you think it would be good to review ACL, IPv6, NAT, DHCP, Security, Troubleshooting & some topics in the CCNA 640-802 as well? Tnx

  21. Nick
    June 29th, 2013

Took ICND2 today and pass with 972. Study ICND2 640-816 section and HeavyMod Dump and you should be fine. 99% are from HeavyMod Dump. I new drag n drop but if you know basic access list then you should be fine.

Got VTP Configuration Sim, Frame Relay hotspot, OSPF Sim. Just understand basics since they trick you in few questions.

Now have to study for CCNP… Best of luck!!

Jay – I hope you pass bud, I would suggest viewing Chris Bryants video’s as he really goes alot in depth about all topics rather than just glossing over like CBT Nuggets does. He has a sale on atm and i think its only $40.

Try not to let the fail get you down, as I said just think of it as a learning experience and you just need to learn abit more about IPV6, NAT etc to pass. Make sure you are all over configuring NAT Pools,NAT overload etc as that is a possible sim they can ask. If need to ask anything let me know.

I have a question if someone can help me with after completing and obtaining the CCNA- via the ICND 1 and ICND 2 route , which Cisco requirement/essential is in demand on the job market, ie security, routing and switching etc etc , I hope my question makes sense to everyone…

  41. thereisnogod
    July 13th, 2013

ricky123 – the entire internet IS routing & switching, we all need security, we all have a voice, and wireless is beautiful. its more of a question of which one do u wanna do. personally i’m a generalist and want to do it all. my heart is into security but i want to master R&S 1st so i can better secure it. you can’t lose with R&S, most companies run/need voice and of course, security. if u r unsure stick with R&S until you starting leaning towards a certain direction. do a search on a job site for keyword CCNA in your area and see what other skills they are looking for. but most importantly, follow your heart.

Some answers were different on some questions, but if we understand basics we can face those in pretty confident. One of that question was Frame Relay one. And VTP Configuration Sim question was there with same ip scheme as many guys told . But remember it had 192.168.2.32/27 may be you will be received with different subnet. So stick with subnetting. Please Follow all Sims and questions too. Best is do your studies well, Use 9tut and examcollection dump then face exam in confident. I wish you all success !

I am taking my ICND2 this Friday (08/09)…I hope to reply to this with very positive results! 😉 I seem to notice that VTP and Frame-Relay Sims are very popular on the exams…I have yet to see anyone post that they got the ACL/NAT/EIGRP sims. Are these on the ICND2 are do they stay on the full CCNA exam?
Also…any idea on how many questions there will be and perhaps how many labs/sim typically?

Thanks to 9tut, I passed today Score 944. I used this site Todd Lamle, CBTNugets (Jeremy Ciora) ICND1&2 Videos as well as Packet tracer and GNS3 for some frame relay practise. I got the VTP Labsim as on 9tut but different ip’s, the frame relay where you have to issue the show frame relay map & running config to answer 5 simple questions. The OSPF sim was there too. D&D questions of accesslist, OSPF&EIGRP. STP Question the 1 with access layer. If u understand your material and visiting this site on regular basis, surely you will make it. Thanks to 9tut

I got the VLSM and ACL D&D a few days ago. I also got the VTP Sim, Frame simlet and OSPF simlet with the same questions that everyone else said. Scored over a 975 on the exam. I think I probably got one wrong. Thanks 9tut and everyone else who contributes!

    On to the CCNP!

    @Broffredo

Congratulations! I am not clear on something, can you tell me which specific VLSM and ACL D&D you are referring to, also the OSPF simlet, is it the https://www.9tut.net/icnd2/icnd2-labsim/ospf-sim following, in which you had to do the configuration? Thanks

    @Unknown_Territory – Thanks!

    Question 1 & 4 from here – http://www.9tut.com/ccna-drag-and-drop-questions

One thing I noticed was in the VLSM one, you have to start with the smaller subnets and then work up to the larger ones. I was always taught to start with the larger first. Not sure if it’s like that for every exam, but beware.

The OSPF one was no configuration. Just questions. They were from Exam E on the popular HeavyMod dump.
